Celebrating 6 amazing years of leadership, heart, and impact at Reach 💙
We’re honored to spotlight our Executive Director, Ms Amy, and all that she brings to our community. Her vision, passion, and deep commitment to children and families truly drive everything we do ✨
If you’ve ever worked with or learned from Amy, you know how much she values connection, creativity, and joy in therapy. One of her favorite reminders for clinicians says it all:
Ms Amy always says, all she needs for a good OT session is a rubber band and a spoon... meaning, relationship and shared joy with a child can be found with very little needed outside of yourself. You don't need all the fanciest tools or toys to wow them; you (the adult) should be the best therapy tool in the room.
However, one of her favorite tools or toys, if she had to choose, is A MIRROR, or even just a phone camera!
Simple, accessible, and incredibly effective.
In feeding therapy, watching oneself eat or chew can be a game changer. Kids can see what their bodies are doing, build awareness, and feel more in control. Taking a video of eating can be a great tool to share success with family members not in session, just like proud sport, music concert, or theater moments we record to share - they are important to celebrate!
Mirrors open the door to silly and imaginative play, especially for kids who crave extra visual input. Faces, expressions, movement, connection in the mirror, it all becomes more engaging, regulated, and fun.
And for older kids and teens? Taking videos or doing mini role-play recordings can be incredibly motivating and meaningful. It meets them where they are, taps into their interests, and builds skills in a way that feels natural, not forced.
The best part is for carryover, it’s a low lift for families. No special equipment needed, just a mirror or a phone, and a small amount of intention needed to build it into their daily routines.
Simple. Dynamic. Meaningful. And most importantly, rooted in shared joy.
Thank you, Amy, for 6 incredible years of leadership and for reminding us that the most powerful tool we bring into any session is ourselves 🌟
