Meet Maggie🌟Our Member of the Month!🌟
What inspired you to start practicing yoga? "Just like most of us, after college, I felt this pressure to find out who I was and what I wanted to do. I really struggled with it because I’ve typically been a pretty confident person. During that time, my sister invited me to a barre-style class that mixed Pilates, yoga, and ballet exercises and it rocked my world. From there, I started teaching at that studio and then got further and further drawn to yoga. Truly, I always feel like yoga is following me just as much as I seek out yoga."
How long have you been practicing at YogaSix, and what drew you to our studio? "I’m pretty sure I’m approaching a year with Y6. I had drifted a little from my own practice and was experiencing low back pain from traveling and holding my kids. I attended a restorative class in hopes that I could find some relief, and I ended up finding a community of people and some really incredible instructors."
What changes have you noticed in your life (physically, mentally, or emotionally) since starting yoga? "Before finding Y6, I was feeling quite warn down mentally. Having 2 little kids, working full time, teaching on the side, and trying to find time for myself was really wearing on me. On top of that, I was in physical pain that was preventing me from actually working out. It was a spiral downward of unhealthy habits. After recommitting to yoga, I was able to workout while also finding relief from my back pain. My anxieties went down with breath work and intention-setting. And my energy and creativity went up as I was feeling less and less bogged down by stresses of life."
What’s one yoga pose or skill you’ve mastered that you’re proud of? "I wouldn’t say that I’ve mastered any pose and I’m not sure if any pose is truly mastered; however, showing up on my mat has been something I’m very proud of doing each week. There is a Y6 close to our California office, and I make sure I always schedule classes while I’m traveling for work."
