Nausea is one of the most common side effects of cancer treatment.
📊 In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involving 162 breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, participants received either one gram or half a gram of ginger extract, or placebo, daily alongside standard antiemetics for 6 days post-chemotherapy.
🌿 Results showed that ginger supplementation reduced acute nausea severity by about 20-30% compared to placebo, with the higher dose (1 g) showing slightly better effects, and both doses well-tolerated.

As always, consult with your healthcare team for a safe, personalized approach to care.

New evidence shows acupuncture & massage aren't just feel-good extras - they’re powerful tools in cancer care. In the IMPACT trial, patients who received these therapies saw up to a 3-point drop in pain levels, plus improvements in fatigue, sleep, and quality of life. 💤✨

These findings helped shape the ASCO–SIO guidelines, which now recommend acupuncture and massage as front-line supportive care options for managing pain in oncology patients. 👏

Feeling exhausted, anxious, or overwhelmed? Mind-body practices like yoga, tai chi, and mindfulness can make a real difference. 🧘‍♀️

According to national ASCO/SIO guidelines, these integrative therapies are now recommended for managing cancer-related fatigue, anxiety, depression, and improving sleep, mood, and overall quality of life.
🔹 Yoga has been shown in multiple clinical trials to ease fatigue and emotional distress, particularly in breast cancer survivors.
🔹 Tai chi and qigong help with balance, physical function, and energy.
🔹 Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) programs reduce anxiety and depressive symptoms, and can be delivered in-person or virtually for wider access.

The future of cancer support is whole-person, personalized, and backed by science. 🌿✨

In a long-term trial involving 889 colon cancer patients enrolled between 2009 and 2023, researchers explored the impact of exercise on cancer outcomes.
📙Participants were randomly assigned to either a structured exercise program or given only a general healthy lifestyle booklet. The exercise group received personalized support, like coaching and supervised workouts, and activities ranged from walking to kayaking to skiing.
🏋 After five years, those in the exercise group had a 28% lower risk of cancer recurrence or developing a new cancer compared to the booklet group. At the eight-year mark, they also showed a 37% lower risk of death.

Personalized medicine may be the future of health care, but for NDs, it’s always been the foundation. While conventional medicine is just starting to embrace whole-person care, naturopathic medicine has prioritized it from the start. Seeing an ND means experiencing care that looks at every part of you: physical symptoms, emotional well-being, environment, genetics, and personal health goals. True personalized care isn’t a trend; it’s a time-tested path to lasting wellness.

Caring for the whole you means going beyond surface-level symptoms. Naturopathic doctors are trained to identify and address the underlying causes of illness—whether they stem from lifestyle choices, environmental exposures, genetic predispositions, or unknown factors. Guided by the principle of “treat the cause,” NDs work closely with patients to remove obstacles to healing and restore the body’s natural balance. ⚖️

This comprehensive approach not only supports real, lasting recovery but also empowers people to take an active role in their health. When you understand the root cause of your health challenges, you gain the insight and confidence to overcome them.✨

The six core principles of naturopathic medicine guide NDs in diagnosing, treating, and caring for patients. 🌱 From clinical decision-making to treatment plans, they influence every aspect of practice.

The goal? Personalized care that supports optimal wellness over the long term. Because good health is more than just the absence of disease. 💛

🧠 Naturopathic doctors (NDs) follow a rigorous education path similar to MDs and DOs. They begin with a science-based bachelor’s degree and pre-med coursework. Then they attend a 4-year accredited naturopathic medical school, completing over 4,100 hours of training.

🌿 Along with a standard medical curriculum, NDs receive specialized training in clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, physical medicine, and counseling. Hands-on clinical experience prepares them to diagnose and treat patients as primary care providers.

📚 After graduation, NDs must pass the NPLEX licensing exams. Currently, 26 jurisdictions (23 states plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands) offer licensure or certification for NDs. Residency opportunities are expanding, with many NDs completing one to two-year primary care or specialty programs. NDs have a pivotal role in advancing integrative health care, working alongside all types of practitioners.

Celebrating ! 🌿✨ What sets naturopathic medicine apart is its philosophy. Naturopathic doctors (NDs) see the body as an interconnected system, treating both symptoms and root causes and supporting our inherent ability to heal.🌿 They use an all-inclusive toolkit: nutritional counseling, botanical medicine, lifestyle modifications, physical medicine, and (when necessary) pharmaceutical prescriptions.

Naturopathic medicine isn't just about treating symptoms - it's about caring for the WHOLE you: physical, behavioral, and spiritual well-being. Follow along this week as we explore the biggest issues facing the field: licensure, education and training, expanding the ND workforce, and how to connect patients with the most qualified doctors!

While genetics play a role in cancer risk, lifestyle and environmental factors are crucial in determining an individual's overall risk. According to the CDC, many cancers are influenced by modifiable lifestyle choices such as smoking, diet, physical activity, and exposure to carcinogens.

🥗 A healthy, plant-based diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins can help reduce cancer risk. The British Journal of Cancer highlights that adopting a healthy diet can lower the risk of various cancers, including colorectal, breast, and gastric cancers.
🏃‍♂️ The Lancet Oncology reports that physical activity reduces cancer risk by maintaining a healthy weight, improving immune function, and reducing inflammation. Obesity is linked to an increased risk of multiple cancers, including breast, colorectal, and pancreatic cancers; the International Journal of Cancer emphasizes that weight control should be a priority for cancer prevention.
🚭 To***co use is the leading cause of cancer and cancer-related deaths. Limiting alcohol consumption is also important, as alcohol increases the risk of cancers such as breast, liver, and colorectal cancers. The JAMA Oncology study underscores the importance of smoking cessation and moderate alcohol consumption in reducing cancer risk.
