✨ FAQ Time
→ “When should pneumatic pumps be used?”

💬 Here is the expert answer:
Pneumatic pumps are most effective when lymphatic fluid is already moving. Signs of good lymphatic flow include a noticeable reduction in swelling during belly breathing, skin sweeping, or Manual Lymph Drainage. First belly breathe, then decongest or gently massage the lymphatic junctures such as the groin, behind the knee, and the ankle are open and flowing, this is an ideal time to use the pump. Usually swelling is less in the morning and builds throughout the day. So if you use the pump in the morning when you are smaller, then you area really clearing an area well. If you wait until the end of the day, then you are draining some of what was accumulated during the day. In some cases, twice a day could be recommnded. Of course this depends on someone's heart condition too. Careful with AFIB and COPD, ask your doctor.

Pneumatic pumps should not be used if a limb is weeping or wet, nor if red and hot. Fluid should never be pushed toward an obstruction such as lymph node removal, scar tissue or tumor. In such situations, a Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT) will guide safe and effective alternatives.
