Let's face it, carbs tend to be seen as the "bad guy" when it comes to food. But why? It's time to rethink our attitude towards carbs, which help provide the fuel our bodies needs.
Carbohydrates are 1 of the 3 macronutrients (or "macros") the body recognizes. Whenever you eat something, your body sees it as falling into at least one of those three groups. Each group has it's own function for our body, and carbs' job is potentially the most important one.
Carbs break down into glucose, a type of sugar, in the body. This is the ๐๐จ๐๐ฒ'๐ฌ ๐๐๐ฏ๐จ๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐ ๐๐ง๐ ๐ฉ๐ซ๐๐๐๐ซ๐ซ๐๐ ๐๐จ๐ซ๐ฆ ๐จ๐ ๐๐ง๐๐ซ๐ ๐ฒ - our brain and nervous system work best with glucose. And that is EXACTLY what carbs do, give us energy! This is why the recommended intake for carbs is 45-65% of what you eat in a day, which is about half of all your foods.
Now what about the other 2 macros, protein and fat? While these two are important in their own ways, they don't break down into glucose for energy. That's something only carbs can do. BUT, they can help us to sustain the energy we're given from carbs, which is why ๐๐๐ฅ๐๐ง๐๐ ๐ข๐ฌ ๐ข๐ฆ๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ๐๐ง๐ญ.

These are all carbs in their own unique ways. Making grains and starches your only source of carbs narrows the variety of nutrients your body gets, so including all of these food groups is key.
