We would like to welcome and introduce the newest member of our practice, Dr. Robert Weiss! We are honored and excited to have such a wonderful provider joining our team!
Dr. Robert J. Weiss graduated from the University of Delaware and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania, and his clinical and research fellowships at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. Additionally, Dr. Weiss furthered his studies in geriatrics at the Banner-Boswell Medical Center in Sun City, Arizona.
He is certified in General Internal Medicine and the subspecialty of Nephrology by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and was a Certified Clinical Specialist in Hypertension, as bestowed upon him by the American Society of Hypertension. As well, Dr. Weiss has been named a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Nephrology, the National Kidney Foundation, and held the rank of Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the Temple University School of Medicine.
Dr. Weiss was raised in Wilmington, Delaware and currently lives in both Allentown, Pennsylvania and Simpsonville, South Carolina. He has been fortunate to study and ultimately practice medicine in several regions of our country where he enjoyed learning about and experiencing the differences in medical and non-medical cultures. These opportunities enriched him personally and professionally.
As a consulting nephrologist, Dr. Weiss was privileged to care for some of the sickest and most challenging people in our population. This requires a fastidious personality, a trait that either fortunately or unfortunately - he is still not sure which - he possesses. He has practiced nephrology for over forty years, has successfully conducted clinical investigations, and was appointed Medical Director in a major pharmaceutical company, concentrating in the area of cardiovascular and renal diseases. His clinical interests include hypertension and peri-natal nephrology. His clinical investigative studies centered about hypertension, dyslipidemia, and the anemia of chronic kidney disease.
After thirty years of rigorous, demanding practice he joined the staff of a surgical hospital, while still practicing concierge nephrology, providing medical care to acute post-operative surgical patients. He is also grateful that Optum/UHG had afforded him the opportunity of developing new skill sets as a Physician Advisor while being exposed to different administrative medical issues.
In order to preserve some sanity and balance his life, he continues to enjoy theater and the performing arts, his undergraduate minor. Dr. Weiss' beloved wife, Christine, has a professional background in business and law, and reads avidly. Their non-professional interests and background aid them in thoroughly enjoying Broadway, movies, symphonies, concerts, art shows, and reading. Other personal interests include bicycling, boating, tennis, and pocket billiards.
Additionally, Dr. Weiss also lives with two cats - biologic brothers - who graciously allow the couple to live in their (i.e., the cats') home while the humans pay the mortgage. Seems fair, no?
