The sinuses have a direct impact on the health of the neuroendocrine system. Repetitive mycotoxin exposure, or colonization in the sinuses can create dysfunction in the pituitary gland, leading to HPA axis problems, such as hormone dysregulations, mental health conditions, and a constant state of fight or flight for the nervous system. One great therapy for clearing out myocotoxin accumulation in the sinuses is through nasal irrigation. There are fascinating studies on the hyper activity of reward system of the brain in binge types of disordered eating & food addiction. Emotional eating can be a common coping strategy for the lack of comfort in chronic illness and/or shame cycles.

Maybe food was a major reward system for you as a child growing up. Was ice cream or another favorite treat a common reward?

Today wraps up national eating disorder awareness week (NEDA). Recovering from multiple eating disorders has been a significant part of my own healing journey & has now become a topic I feel passionate about continuing to learn more and more on.

Research shows a direct correlation between neuroinflammation & psychiatric conditions, such as eating disorders. Neuroinflammtion can have a wide variety of root causes, however, borreliosis (Lyme disease), parasite infections & unprocessed traumas are a few that have been studied & associated with eating disorders, such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa & binge eating disorder.

A mediator is not something that predisposes you to a condition, but rather perpetuates it. While these examples may or may not be a part of the root cause for one of the previously mentioned eating disorders, they may be a piece of the puzzle to address, especially if an individual may be hitting roadblocks during recovery.

Pork rind cereal?! 🤯

An unconventional, yet delicious & extremely nutrient dense snack idea! It reminds me of a blood sugar friendly Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

Pork rinds (without j***y oils, turn the package around!) are high in protein & a great source of fat. If you’re all about protein cereals, it doesn’t get much higher than this!!

Be sure to choose the plain Himalayan sea salt flavor, as it is neutral & will actually enhance the sweetness of the cinnamon.

Add some cinnamon, your favorite berries & milk of choice (mine is h**p, it is delicious!). Let the rinds soak as you stir in the cinnamon & milk for 2-3min (they’ll soak in the flavor from the milk & cinnamon) and enjoy! 🥳
