Children who spend regular time in nature gain developmental benefits that go far beyond physical activity. Research shows that outdoor environments help sharpen attention spans because natural settings provide a balance of stimulation and calm. Unlike digital screens or noisy classrooms, green spaces encourage curiosity and focus, allowing children to engage deeply with their surroundings. This connection to nature fosters mindfulness, helping them build stronger concentration skills over time.

Spending time outdoors also significantly reduces stress. The natural world provides restorative experiences—sunlight, fresh air, and open spaces—that calm the nervous system. Kids who regularly interact with nature tend to show lower levels of anxiety and emotional fatigue compared to those confined indoors. Beyond stress relief, nature boosts problem-solving and creativity. Activities like building with sticks, exploring trails, or observing wildlife push children to think critically, adapt, and find solutions independently. In short, regular exposure to nature lays the foundation for healthier, happier, and more resilient young minds.

💭 Ever notice how your child’s “bad behaviour” often shows up at the end of the day?

It’s not about them being “naughty.” It’s about their little nervous system finally saying, “I’m done, I can’t hold it together anymore.”

When we understand this, meltdowns stop feeling like defiance, and start looking like stress signals.
And instead of reacting with punishment, we can respond with connection.

👉 Next time your child has a big outburst, try this:

1. Take one deep breath before you speak.

2. Say what you see (“You’re so frustrated your tower fell down”).

3. Offer safety first, solutions second.

✨ You’ll be amazed how quickly they feel seen—and how behaviour follows connection.

➡️ What’s the hardest time of day for meltdowns in your home? (Mine was always right before dinner!)

You are right Mayor, in addition to thoughts and prayers we need to learn and take action!

"These kids were literally praying," an emotional Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said at a news conference. "It was the first week of school. They were in a church. These are kids that should be learning with their friends; they should be playing on the playground. They should be able to go to school or church in peace without the fear or risk of violence, and their parents should have the same kind of assurance."

It's hard to put social anxiety into words. Sometimes it's just a blanket of anxiety that doesn't have a reason and sometimes I can pinpoint what's floating through my head. If I was trying to tell someone what it feels like, it's all of these feelings/thoughts/worries happening at once.

*This is just my own personal experience and doesn't speak for everyone with social anxiety

In my sophomore year of high school, I took the teen Mental Health First Aid (tMHFA) course as part of my gym class, and my number one takeaway is that mental health is just as important as physical health. This
