My top 5 horror movies as a pelvic therapist. These REALLY get us 👻
1. "Leaking is normal after kids."
😬 Common does not equal normal. While it can be normal in the initial postpartum period, if you experience any leaking after 6 weeks postpartum, see a pelvic therapist. Kids or no kids, 17 or 67, if you're leaking, pelvic therapy offers support.
2. I "W" sat as a kid.
👀 Okay, not ALL W sitting is a problem. BUT consistent W sitting can be a sign of joint hypermobility and/or lower muscle tone, weaker core. If you W sat as a kid and you're experiencing pelvic pain, back pain, joint pain, or a weak core, physical therapy can help!
3. You're told you had a normal ultrasound so obviously there's no endometriosis
🚩🚩🚩🚩 This is outdated information. Pelvic pain with a clear ultrasound does not rule out endometriosis, or many other conditions. See a qualified doctor familiar with endo and get pelvic therapy to aid in symptom and pain management.
4. Pain with s*x.
🚨 Too many medical providers are comfortable telling patients pain with s*x happens and offer no support or treatment. You don't need to suffer through painful in*******se or completely avoid it, treatments exist!
5. Your told diastasis recti can't be healed.
🤦🏽♀️ We're not saying it's easy, but we are saying it's very possible to heal diastasis recti with targeted physical therapy. Knowing the right exercises and posturing to help heal your abs is key. While surgery is occasionally needed if there's an accompanying hernia, most cases of diastasis recti can be healed.
Any of those horror stories feel realistic?
