Buzzword: Pelvic Floor Strengthening Chair
Helpful tool or just really good marketing?
What They Are
Pelvic floor “strengthening chairs” use electromagnetic pulses to induce involuntary muscle contractions.
You sit fully clothed while the machine does the work.
How it works
The pulses stimulate your pelvic floor muscles, causing them to contract over and over again.
Far more than you could do on your own.
My verdict
Eh- the technology is not, but the marketing can be. The technology itself isn’t new, but the way it’s marketed is. It’s often sold as a quick, effortless fix, and that’s where things get misleading
It’s a tool, not a treatment
This can be a helpful tool, but it should never be the only thing you’re doing AND you should never do it without direction from a pelvic floor professional.
It doesn’t address the root cause or everything else your pelvic floor needs.
What concerns me
Your pelvic floor doesn’t work in isolation
It’s connected to your breath, core, posture, nervous system, and daily habits. This only addresses one piece of that.
The Bigger Issue
What concerns me most….
It’s often sold as a full solution without proper assessment by people who aren’t trained in pelvic health. Strengthening is not a universal fix for the symptoms these chairs claim to heal. In some cases, strengthening can actually make the symptoms and root causes even worse.
The Reality
Using this on its own is like putting a bucket under a leaking pipe; you might temporarily manage symptoms, but you’re not fixing what’s causing them.
This isn’t a magic fix
And using it blindly, without proper direction, can actually make things worse
If this is something you were thinking about trying, let’s see if it is the right fit for you.
