At Penn Medicine Doylestown Health, healing sometimes comes with a wagging tail. Our Animal-Assisted Activity Program brings trained therapy dogs and their volunteer handlers to visit patients, families, and staff offering comfort, joy, and a little extra love along the way.

On this National Dog Day, we want to introduce you to Boomer, a 12-year-old boxer who makes his hospital rounds with volunteer Jerry Fetter. Walking on three legs but full of spirit, Boomer is a favorite among patients and staff, reminding us all of the power of hope, resilience, and healing.

For over 20 years, the Genatempo family has entrusted their health (and hearts) to Dr. Robert Grabowski at Penn Medicine Doylestown Health. He’s not just their physician; he’s family. From remembering personal milestones to celebrating Eagles wins together, Dr. Grabowski builds connections that go far beyond the exam room.

“He invests time in getting to know us, remembers personal details, and celebrates our milestones, a level of care that transcends the typical doctor-patient relationship,” said Cari Genatempo.

Whether it’s helping their son thousands of miles away at college, treating their daughter after a car accident the very next day, or always being just a call away, his unwavering commitment brings families clarity, comfort, and peace of mind. http://spr.ly/6182fQiDC

Patti Lyons faced stage 3 re**al cancer with strength, hope, and the expert team at Penn Medicine Doylestown Health by her side.

Subtle symptoms like blood in her stool and weight loss led to a colonoscopy and a life-changing diagnosis. Thanks to a coordinated care team, cutting-edge robotic surgery, and a personalized treatment plan, Patti is now nearly five years cancer-free.

Doylestown Health is accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Re**al Cancer, demonstrating our commitment to providing high-quality, multidisciplinary care for re**al cancer patients.

Patti’s story is a powerful reminder to not ignore the signs, that screening saves lives, and that trust matters. She's back teaching aikido, tending her lavender farm, and thriving thanks to early detection, expert care, and the power of community. http://spr.ly/6188fWMtQ

To celebrate World Breastfeeding Month, our Village Improvement Association (VIA) Maternity Center hosted its 8th annual Breastfeeding Celebration in the Beck Family Classroom at Doylestown Hospital.

Families, parents-to-be, and supporters came together for a joyful event filled with connection, resources, and support for every stage of the breastfeeding journey.

This year’s theme, “Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems," is at the heart of everything we do. From prenatal education like our Breastfeeding 101 class, to bedside support after delivery, and weekly support groups once families go home, we’re here every step of the way.

Our board-certified lactation consultants (IBCLCs) are available seven days a week to help with both common and complex breastfeeding challenges. Whether parents choose nursing, pumping, or combo feeding, our goal is to offer compassionate support.

Yesterday, PennSTAR’s medical helicopter landed at its new home, Penn Medicine Doylestown Hospital. PennSTAR leadership and crew were on-site to answer questions while giving a close-up look at the aircraft's capabilities.

The PennSTAR Flight Program provides critical care air and ground medical transportation to the Tri-State Area within a 100-mile radius of Penn Medicine. Three medical helicopters and two critical care ambulances provide rapid transport of critical care patients and on-scene services at the site of accidents and trauma-related incidents.

The PennSTAR helicopter is larger, faster and more spacious than the previous model that served the hospital. These helicopters were specifically designed for Medivac service, with the ability to operate safely in varied weather conditions, at night, or in controlled spaces.

We're so grateful to and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society . This is the seventh year in a row they have spread warmth and hope to our patients through Loves to Care.

Together, they donated 60 heart blanket pillows, patient care kits, and handwritten messages of encouragement to support cancer patients at The Cancer Institute of Doylestown Hospital.

Swipe to see the heartfelt moments shared between our team and these generous donors.

For 10 years, Doylestown Hospital has hosted a local chapter of Walk with a Doc, a free monthly walking event for the community, bringing people together for exercise, education, and connection.

Led by Dr. Jim Kmetzo, retired cardiologist at Penn Medicine Doylestown Health, each session kicks off with a brief health talk by one of our expert providers, then continues with a one-mile walk.

These events are held on the third Wednesday of every month, rain or shine. Supported by Friends of the Heart Institute, Walk with a Doc is part of a global movement started by Dr. David Sabgir in 2005, now with more than 500 chapters worldwide.

Dr. Kmetzo reminds us: “Just 150 minutes of walking per week can improve heart health, reduce stress, and increase longevity.”

In loving memory of their mother Gloria, Angela Shammo and her sister Kim Shammo turned their grief into an outpouring of generosity. After experiencing the compassion of hospice care firsthand, they were inspired to raise funds in their community to create 120 hospice care packages for families at Penn Medicine Doylestown Hospital. Each package was filled with comforting essentials and love.

Now launching “Gloria’s Goodness,” the sisters are committed to helping even more families feel supported during difficult times.

As a special thank you, Angela also surprised our incredible hospice nurses with cakes and treats, a sweet acknowledgement of the care and compassion they bring every day.

We're so grateful to Angela and Kim for this beautiful legacy of kindness and support.

For more than 35 years, Doylestown Health Hospice has supported patients and families in our community with expert care, deep compassion, and a focus on dignity at the end of life.

Emma Dolezal was born without a uterus and never thought she'd be able to carry a child. That is until the Uterine Transplant Program at Penn Medicine gave her hope—and a healthy baby. This week, Dolezal finally met her donor, Sara Leister, along with Olivia, the 8th child to be born via Penn's program. “To be able to create more amazing moms is really something special for me,” said Kathleen O’Neill, MD, director of the uterine transplant program.

We are grateful that our outreach program team had the opportunity to participate in the Summer Fun Safety event hosted at the Bucks County Children’s Museum, helping families make safety a priority while enjoying the season's adventures.

It was a great day packed with fun and learning. From lifeguard demonstrations to crafting UV bracelets and puppets, we made sure kids and parents walked away with important safety tips for water, biking, and sun protection.

A huge thank you to the team at the library and everyone who came out to make this event such a success!
