WWS Physical Therapy and Vestibular Rehabilitation will be closed on Monday, September 1st, in observance of the Labor Day holiday. Open Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at regular business hours.
You ask, What is Labor Day, and why do we celebrate it?
For many of us, Labor Day marks the end of summer and the beginning of Fall and the school year. But beyond the opportunity for indulging in barbecues and poolside gatherings, Labor Day holds significant historical weight.
Labor Day is our country's most explicit way of recognizing the contributions of workers in the United States and the history of labor in the U.S.since the 1800s.
Enjoy a and wherever you may be.

🌀 Did you know?
BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo) and Anemia are two very different conditions — but they can sometimes team up to make dizziness feel worse.
BPPV is caused by tiny crystals that move inside the inner ear, leading to spinning sensations when you change positions.
Anemia is when your blood doesn’t carry enough oxygen, which can cause fatigue, weakness, and lightheadedness.
*Anemia does not cause BPPV.
*But anemia can intensify dizziness if you already have BPPV.
If you’ve been struggling with dizziness, it’s essential to get checked so the correct cause — or causes — can be identified and treated.
Please reach out to WWSPT today 2t (215) 489-3234 to schedule an evaluation and start feeling steady again.

Look up Tonight! The Moon! Jupiter! Venus!
The , , and appeared close together in the morning sky today. This is due to a conjunction, where the planets appear near each other from our perspective on Earth. The will be most striking on the mornings of August 11-13, with the planets appearing less than a degree apart, which is roughly the width of your pinky finger held at arm's length. A thin crescent moon will join them a week later, on August 19, forming a . WWS Physical Therapy and Vestibular Rehabilitation
🌌 Tonight – A Celestial Triple Treat!
August 12, 2025 will light up the sky with not one, but three cosmic wonders:
✨ Perseid Meteor Shower – Earth is passing through the debris trail of Comet Swift–Tuttle, producing up to 100 meteors per hour, many blazing in gold and emerald streaks.
🌙 The Moon – Shining bright in the dawn sky, casting a warm glow over the landscape.
🌟 Venus & Jupiter Conjunction – The two brightest planets will appear close together, side by side, just before sunrise.
Best Viewing Tips:
Look towards the eastern sky before dawn.
Find a dark, open spot away from city lights.
Let your eyes adjust for at least 20 minutes.
📅 This is a once-in-years combination — meteors raining down as Venus, Jupiter, and the Moon share the stage. Don’t miss it!
I can make this more dramatic and poetic for maximum social media engagement if you want.

Stephen Colbert, the host of "The Late Show," has publicly stated that he was diagnosed with Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). He mentioned experiencing spinning sensations and falls when standing up from a seated position.
What is Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)?
Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) is a peripheral vestibular disorder involving the inner ear that causes spells of vertigo, typically lasting less than one minute, when the head is in certain head positions. Vertigo is defined as an illusion of movement or a sense of spinning. In BPPV, vertigo is brief, lasting only a few seconds. The vertigo goes away in a few seconds to a minute if you don’t move your head. Vertigo occurs most commonly in the morning when you sit up or turn over in bed. BPPV can lead to chronic imbalance if not treated, but balance improves following a successful treatment using positioning maneuvers.
BPPV can be attributed to several causes; however, in approximately 58% of cases, the exact cause is unknown. Head trauma accounts for 6-18% with infection, inflammation, or ischemia accounting for 3-9%. The likelihood that you will have BPPV increases as you get older.
At WWS Physical Therapy and Vestibular Rehabilitation, our certified vestibular specialists treat BPPV. Diagnosing BPPV with the Frenzel Lens demonstration by Wendy Schoenewald is shown in the photo below. Appropriate diagnostic testing is essential for people with dizziness and balance problems to avoid misdiagnosis, delayed diagnosis, and missed diagnoses. We have a few critical pieces of technology in vestibular rehabilitation that have enabled us to more accurately diagnose and guide our treatment, helping people get the correct answers and solutions to their dizziness. The Epley Maneuver is also key in treatment.

WWSPT asks, Have you heard about Retro Walking?
Backward walking, also known as Retro Walking, offers a unique way to challenge both the body and brain. It requires more vestibular input and can enhance balance. It engages different muscle groups than forward walking, mainly the quadriceps, hamstrings, and gluteal muscles, often with greater intensity, and helps strengthen the leg muscles.
At WWS Physical Therapy and Vestibular Rehabilitation, Doylestown, PA., we incorporate backward walking exercises using ball tossing or Thera-Bands to challenge our patients. The image below depicts the Thera-band retro walk, also called the “Monster Walk.” Image from Skimble.com
We recently read this NationalGeographic.com article, “Walking is great for your health. Walking backward? Even better.”
Here are the key points from the article based on the limited studies.
Key Health Benefits of Walking Backward
1. Engages various muscles
2. Enhances flexibility and alleviates pain
3. Burns more calories.
4. Enhances mental clarity
5. Supports joint health, particularly for knees
Take Precaution!
Since you face away from the direction of movement, there's a risk of tripping or bumping into hazards. It’s safer to practice on treadmills, in obstacle-free areas, or with the help of a physical therapist or a spotter.
