Cassista Chiropractic

Cassista Chiropractic Chiro health/wellness speaker to groups, clubs, & organizations. FB managed by Dr. Lorraine Cassista I am a second generation chiropractor. I love to stay active.

My father had a practice in Dracut. I became a chiropractor because chiropractic saved my life – literally! When I was three years old, I got a collapsed lung from a fall off of the top bunk of a bunk bed. I was in the hospital and not responding well. My lung would not inflate even with the best interventions of the day. Because my father was studying to be a chiropractor at the time, he enlisted the help of a chiropractor who came to the hospital and gave me an adjustment. That adjustment turned my life power back on! My lung began to inflate and began the process of healing. When I was about seven, my parents told me the story. It impacted me so much that I have to say I became a chiropractor when I was seven. Since following the footsteps of my dad, I have never wanted to be anything else since then. Because of my personal experience and after learning the things I did in school, I realized that pain relief care alone was not enough. I work at giving people the opportunity to reach correction and wellness, so they not only feel better, they function better. Corrective chiropractic care helps get the spine back to normal much like an orthodontist helps straighten your teeth. Our best practice members are people who are eager to learn how the body works, want to make the changes necessary to attain and maintain health and want to be well and stay well, not only for themselves, but for their families. They understand that bringing their children in for care is the best way to allow them to grow and develop to reach their fullest potential! I enjoy tennis, golf, racquetball, basketball, sailing, wakeboarding, water skiing, snowboarding and generally love life. One of my favorite things is to speak to groups. As a result, I am a frequent guest speaker to many groups, clubs and organizations. I was the keynote speaker at a NH Nurse Practitioners Conference, speaker for Verizon Retirees two times, featured speaker for the Lowell Public school nurses and for area Catholic School PTO's and many other groups on a variety of topics. I love the feeling I get when I see light bulbs going on in peoples' heads when they get a realization and understanding of their bodies and what to do to stay healthy. Educating through speaking to groups is a close tie with tennis for what I love to do most. Here are some photos from Day 4 of our trip to the Finger Lakes last week. They include Cascadilla Falls, Ithaca Falls, Buttermilk Falls and Letchworth State Park . I estimate that we climbed and descended around 2500 stone steps in 4 days in addition to all the walking we did.
We also went to the Glen Curtiss Museum. What an intelligent and multi talented man who pioneered the bicycle, motorcycle and aviation industries. Won every race he ever entered and should be just as well known for his work on aviation as the Wright Brothers.
We also had fun at the Strong Museum of Play and the Corning Museum of Glass.

Well I'm not done going through the over 600 photos I took on our trip last week. Here are some highlights from our first 3 days of our 10-day trip to the Finger Lakes.
We started our first full day at Watkins Glen State Park. The gorge is 1.5 miles with 19 waterfalls. It contains 832 stone steps of which we climbed to the 1 mile mark. Then we had to go back down! It was brutal on my knees but worth it. Just beautiful.
The next day we headed out to Taugannock State Park. The gorge runs about 3/4 of mile each way. This one was more flat with no steps up and down. We also went to Buttermilk Falls but didn't do the trail.
The third day, we headed out to Treman State Park. It had Lower Falls and Lucifer Falls containing around 250 big, steep stone steps up and then down again.
We continued on the fall trails the next day but I haven't gotten to those photos yet. The weather was perfect and the scenery beautiful. Many of the falls were a bit scant compared to what they could be because they are experiencing a drought. Still fabulous to see and experience firsthand.

Dr. C and I came back yesterday afternoon from a 10-day vacation to the Finger Lakes. We're exhausted so I haven't had time to finish going over my photos for our highs of the week. I hope to do so tomorrow or Tuesday. You'll understand why we need to recuperate from our vacation when I share info and photos. Stay tuned. 😃

Attention pregnant women and new moms:
Long post but worth reading for the health of your children.

New study reveals that limiting sugar in the first 1,000 days of a child’s life has massive life-long benefits by preventing chronic diseases, establishing healthy taste preferences, and supporting proper development. A major study found that early life exposure to lower sugar intake was associated with a 35% reduced risk of Type 2 diabetes and a 20% reduced risk of high blood pressure in adulthood.
The first 1,000 days are a critical window of rapid development for a child’s brain, body, metabolism, and immune system, setting the stage for their future health. Excessive early exposure to added sugars can irreversibly alter development and lead to long-term health problems.
To elaborate, a child’s palate is very malleable during the first 1,000 days. Repeated exposure to sweet foods trains their taste buds to crave sweeter flavors, making them less receptive to naturally sweet foods like fruits and vegetables. By consistently introducing whole, unprocessed foods, you prevent a child from becoming accustomed to the intense, artificially sweet flavors found in many processed snacks. This helps them appreciate a wider variety of foods even later in life.
Also, a landmark study found that people exposed to lower sugar intake in utero and during the first 1,000 days of life had significantly lower risks of developing type 2 diabetes and hypertension.
Also, reducing sugar intake through the first 1,000 days helps combat childhood and adult obesity. Sugary foods and drinks are often calorie-dense but lack nutrients and fiber, which can lead to excessive weight gain. A high sugar diet in childhood is a major driver of obesity, which carries a host of long-term health consequences.
Furthermore, limiting sugar intake during this critical developmental period improves metabolic health. High sugar intake can disrupt the body’s normal metabolic processes and lead to insulin resistance (a leading cause of PCOS, diabetes, and other chronic illnesses). Limiting sugar helps set a healthy metabolic pattern, reducing the risk of fatty liver disease, PCOS, diabetes, high cholesterol and heart disease later in life.

We examined the impact of exposure to sugar restrictions within 1000 days after conception on type 2 diabetes and hypertension, leveraging quasi-experimental variation from the end of the United Kingdom's sugar rationing in September 1953. Rationing restricted sugar intake to levels within current d...

Making your health a priority is not as difficult as one might think. It's a matter of choice for what you are willing to pay for and what you can do without for a while. Morning TV shows frequently have segments on how to save money and reduce payments for things that you can really do without - without causing disappointment or discomfort.
We have care plans to help those who have financial difficulties. If someone is at poverty level, they can apply for Mass Health or other public assistance programs. Dr. C can answer questions about payments and financial need.

“A successful VBAC avoids major abdominal surgery, lowers a woman’s risk of hemorrhage and infection, and shortens postpartum recovery. The rate of complications in the mother or baby are similar in VBACs and repeat cesareans, although the risks are different.” Elliot Berlin, D.C. gives us an in depth look at cesarean sections, vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) and trial of labor. His article is in the Summer issue of Pathways to Family Wellness Magazine.

Corrective chiropractic care helps get the spine back to normal much like an orthodontist helps straighten your teeth. We work toward giving our patients their lives back so they can enjoy doing the things they love to do with the family, friends and people they love.

Our best practice members are people who are eager to learn how their body works, want to make the changes necessary to attain and maintain health and want to be and stay well for themselves and their families. They understand that bringing their children in for care is the best way to allow them to grow and develop to reach their fullest potential! In addition to using objective diagnostic equipment and delivering quality chiropractic care, we also utilize nutrition in our office. We carry the best, mostly organic whole food supplements available. We offer classes on diet and health management. Our 21-day cleanse is extremely effective at getting people on the right path to a healthy diet. Personally, I love to stay active. I enjoy tennis, golf, racquetball, basketball, sailing, wakeboarding, water skiing, snowboarding and generally love life. One of my favorite things is to speak to groups.
