Chair Yoga: Gentle in Appearance, Powerful in Practice
Chair yoga is often misunderstood as being only for those who need an "easy" or "senior" version of yoga. But don’t be fooled by the chair—this practice can be incredibly challenging and deeply rewarding.
Using a chair as a prop doesn't mean you're taking shortcuts. It means you're working smarter: building strength, increasing flexibility, and enhancing balance while eliminating the barrier of getting down to and up from the floor. Chair yoga allows for more accessible entry points while still engaging your muscles, breath, and focus just like any traditional yoga practice.
In fact, when done mindfully, chair yoga can help you refine alignment, hold poses longer, and explore deeper core engagement. It can be adapted to create real resistance and stamina—whether you’re doing seated sun salutations, supported standing poses, or flowing transitions that test your endurance and control.
Whether you're recovering from an injury, working at a desk, or simply looking for a different kind of physical challenge, chair yoga proves that accessibility and intensity can go hand in hand.
As a member of our community, you know this is an inclusive space. We are going to be incorporating chairs into some of our classes so everyone can experience it, and perhaps YOU can feel more comfortable just grabbing a chair even if you are the only one!
