On this day in 1932, the FBI – Federal Bureau of Investigation opened its first crime lab in a single room with one examiner and a borrowed microscope. 90+ years later, it's become one of the largest and most advanced forensic labs in the world, processing hundreds of thousands of evidence items each year.
