Today we are highlighting Dr. Duane Harris, MD, of AllerVie Health!
Before starting his career as an allergist, Dr. Harris served in the U.S. Navy for nine years on active duty, with four years in the reserve. He has been practicing in Draper since 1994 and supervises the only active pollen counting station in Utah.
When we first began speaking to Dr. Harris early last year about a potential partnership between Intermountain Allergy & Asthma and AllerVie Health, he wasn’t actively seeking out a partnership like ours. He quickly came to realize that a partnership with AllerVie would allow him to continue providing quality care to his current patients, expand his services, increase access to care, and bring the Draper community the latest advances in allergy, asthma, immunology, and clinical research.
When asked why he decided to go into medicine, and why allergy and asthma specifically, Dr. Harris said, “I decided to pursue medicine because after completing three years in computer science, I realized that I didn’t want to spend the rest of my life looking at a computer screen. I applied for medical school, got accepted, and was able to finish my C.S. degree before starting. I decided to go into allergy and asthma largely because I suffered from both as a youth. I had moderate to severe asthma, as well as food allergies and seasonal allergies. I did desensitization shots as a child (they made a BIG difference). I can really empathize with what my patients are going through.”
Thank you, Dr. Harris, for your dedication to clinical excellence, creating an improved patient experience, and supporting the development of advanced allergy and immunology-focused therapeutics and treatment options. AllerVie wouldn’t be the same without you!
