✨ Meet Sofia ✨

Why We Don’t “Heal” ADHD and What We Do Instead:

As a neurologically-focused pediatric chiropractor, my role is not to treat or heal ADHD. That might sound surprising, but here’s why: ADHD isn’t caused by a “broken” brain that needs fixing it’s most often the result of a nervous system stuck in overdrive.

When a child’s nervous system lives in a constant state of sympathetic dominance (fight-or-flight mode), the brain’s wiring is focused on survival, not learning, focus, calm, or connection. In this state:
• The thinking and focus centers of the brain (prefrontal cortex) get less activation.
• The body and brain are flooded with stress signals, making it harder to regulate attention, emotions, and impulses.
• Growth, healing, and proper brain development take a back seat to survival mode.

What we do in our office is not about “curing” ADHD. Instead, we use precise, gentle adjustments to help the nervous system shift out of that stuck fight-or-flight state and back toward parasympathetic balance the state where growth, healing, and repair happen naturally.

When the nervous system is balanced and regulated:
• Brain and body communication is clear and efficient.
• The child’s ability to focus, adapt, and self-regulate improves naturally.
• The root driver, chronic stress dominance, is reduced or removed.

In other words, we empower the child’s nervous system to do what it’s designed to do. The healing doesn’t come from me, it comes from within them, once their nervous system is given the chance to function without interference.

We don’t “treat ADHD.” We help restore the natural state of health that allows the brain to develop, integrate, and thrive, and in that process, the symptoms of ADHD often fade because the underlying stress pattern is gone.

She’s Talking Nonstop Now!
These days when Lydia comes in, she’s a total chatterbox—and we absolutely love it! So do her parents. Her progress is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when we support the body in the right order.

We understand that many parents are constantly searching for the next supplement, diet, or therapy that might help their child. Dr. Nathan sees it all too often—parents searching for the next best supplement, detox program, or tincture to “fix” a problem. These remedies aren’t inherently bad, but they’re often marketed as the magic bullet for a range of issues.

When I sat down with Dr. Nathan to discuss supplements in pediatric care, he had a thought-provoking perspective:

“Let’s take constipation as an example. Many parents want to avoid Miralax (which I love ❤️ ), so they turn to magnesium as a ‘natural’ alternative. And while I support natural approaches over pharmaceuticals and synthetics, we have to ask ourselves—is this truly the natural solution? Should we be loading up a child’s body with magnesium just to force a bowel movement? More often than not, constipation isn’t caused by a magnesium deficiency—especially when an 8-year-old has been on magnesium since they were a year old!

As a neurologically-focused pediatric provider, I’m more interested in why the gut is slow in the first place. Gut motility—the movement of the digestive system—matters. And in most cases, when we examine a child’s nervous system, we find underlying dysfunction and dysregulation. Once we address that neurological imbalance, the constipation resolves naturally because we’ve removed the real issue that was preventing the gut from functioning as it was designed to.”

That makes sense. You mentioned nervous system dysregulation—how does that happen?

“Great question. The nervous system is often overlooked when it comes to maintaining balance in the body, yet it plays a critical role in setting that equilibrium. Stress during pregnancy, birth trauma, and early life experiences can alter the nervous system’s function. Interventions like Pitocin, C-sections, and excessive force during delivery can set the nervous system on the wrong track, preventing it from entering a proper state of ‘Rest, Relax, and Digest.’ These early stressors create the ‘Neuro Storm’ for dysfunction, affecting everything from digestion to overall development.”

In other words, rather than masking symptoms with supplements, addressing the root cause—neurological imbalance—can lead to long-term, natural healing.

Moms and Dads, think back being a kiddo can be hard, but it definitely doesn’t need to be any harder than it naturally is.
