17 trail miles!!!!!!!! So grateful for a cooler start this morning! I felt really good until mile 13 when the sun really came out 🫠🫠🫠 and I saw my dermatologist while I was running and I shouted, “I’m using sunscreen!” 😂😂🏆🏆

Tomorrow 6 more miles.

Next week, a trail marathon! 🤩👏🏽 Trail is another beast for me. The tread, the road - I can glide, it’s fun! The trail really takes all of me and I’m always proud post run. Post runs usually means I have days of intentional rest, training, mobility work and nutrition. I have to plan my runs (hydration, nutrition, gear, traffic, weather, etc.) So post runs usually means that I’ve worked hard, planned well, executed and even executed post run protocol (nutrition, magnesium, etc). It’s a thing! 😜 I can feel my mind getting stronger - it’s so cool 😎

4 more weeks until race day!

For those of you reading this who want to get into fitness, do it. I ran my last Marathon in 2013. I took a 12 year break from running long distances. My girls were little and I couldn’t devote 10 hours a week to a hobby. 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃

But at the beginning of this year, I jumped back in. I’m 42, I have very little athletic ability - but I’m a hard worker. Si se puede. 🤩🤩🤩

🌿 New Episode Alert: “Movement as Medicine: Healing Your Mind Through Your Body” 🌿

☀️Ready to reset your week with something deeply nourishing?☀️

In our latest episode of Couch Time with Cat, we explore how movement can be a powerful medicine for mental wellness. Movement isn’t just about fitness — it’s about honoring your inner landscape, regulating your nervous system, and tending to emotions that words can’t always reach.

What you’ll get from this episode:

💛A fresh way to shift from self-control to self-compassion through movement

💛Practical ideas for gentle, joyful movement (not grueling!) that still support mental balance

💛A richer sense of permission to move in ways that feel good — your dance, your breath, your rhythm

💛A reminder that movement can be a bridge between body and heart, especially when words fall short

15 miles! On a trail! 🏆

I’ve grown so much since my race. I sat with the discomfort that was my last race and got curious. Why was I in so much pain? Was I in pain? What was the problem?

My last race was a 50K and I finished but I was rough. It was my first trail race, my first ultra, and I didn’t know what I didn’t know.

After the race I licked my psychological wounds for three weeks and signed up for my next race. A 52K. I was not going to walk away defeated.

This time I am training with a coach , I’m not so worried about my outfits 😵‍💫, and I challenge myself. Today I got up at 6am, started running at 8, ran for 3:15 and got home at 12:30. It takes a good chunk of time 🫠😂

✅I train on a trail (i didn’t do this the first time)
✅I eat more.
✅I lift more weights.
✅I run without music (sometimes)
✅And i have a conversation with God on every run. 🏃🏽‍♀️

I’ve learned to be with my thoughts and see them writhe with discomfort. And then find a place of peace.

I could not do that in May. Running alone, in the hot sun, alone with my thoughts (no music!!) for 7 hours was torture.

But no more.

At least once per run - I turn off all stimulus and just start talking. God always talks back. Today I thanked God for my hubby and kiddos and for getting through the last week. (This world is wild and a week without crisis feels like it’s worth celebrating). And today he replied, “anytime, always.”

ANYTIME. ALWAYS.

I went prone on a bench, moved my blood around, cried and then he said, “get back up.” And so I did. Grateful.

I have about 6 weeks left until race day. 🤩🏆 52K, here I come.

Therapy doesn’t always happen in words alone. Sometimes the most powerful breakthroughs come when we’re creating with our hands. That’s why I use expressive arts in therapy because symbols, colors, and play can reveal what words can’t always express.

At Bright Light Marriage & Family Therapy, I believe healing should be creative, safe, and even a little fun. 🕊️ Together, we can uncover your story in new ways and help you see the strength you’ve had all along.

Sometimes we tell ourselves the story that we’re completely alone in our struggles. And in that isolation, it feels like nobody could possibly understand.

But here’s the truth: therapy is a safe space to challenge those stories. In marriage and family therapy, we explore the places where pain convinces us to isolate, and we learn to rewrite the narrative together.

You’re not as alone as you think. Healing starts when you let light in. 🌿

If you’re wondering if you’re too old, or if it’s too late, or how your family will manage so you can’t possibly go after your dreams — and that’s stopping you from forward motion - listen up.

I had two young children, it was the middle of COVID and a husband. I was the primary caretaker. I was writing and coaching but I knew I wanted more and so i applied to graduate schools (at 37). I didn’t know how the logistics were going to work but I knew I wanted more knowledge, training and credentials. So I applied and made it happen. It took me 4 years, sleepless nights, baby sitters, juggling schedules, asking family for help and a lot of coffee. And I did it. I learned, worked hard, graduated, and became licensed.

I became a marriage and family therapist. The kind I would love to visit. I created a business that I’m proud of - a business that gives back. A business that helps clients, creative partners, the community, my family and me.

The dream will be hard, but you are worth it. Reach for what you want. You’ll figure it out. You’ll make it happen. The world needs you at your best. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
