Please join us tomorrow at 7:30, 9, or 10:30am to Honor Italian Army C.le Magg. Sc. Roberto Marchini, 28, of Viterbo, Italy, who died during a reconnaissance mission in Afghanistan’s Bakwa district on July 12, 2011. Marchini served in the 8th Airborne Combat Engineer Regiment, Folgore Brigade.

While on base, Marchini used whatever he could find to do CrossFit, often incorporating farmers carries, sandbag runs and tire flips in his workouts. His favorite exercises were double-unders, push-ups and power cleans.

Marchini is survived by numerous friends and family members.

Please join us tomorrow at 7:30, 9, or 10:30am to Honor AWS1 James Buriak, 31, of Salem, Virginia, who died on Aug. 31, 2021, when his helicopter Loosefoot 616 went down off the coast of San Diego, California. He served as a naval aircrewman rescue swimmer (AWS) with HSC-8.
After graduating high school, Buriak attended Roanoke College and joined the Navy in 2017. He deployed aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt for back-to-back tours and multiple detachments before departing for the USS Abraham Lincoln. He was known as an exemplary father and partner, and avid CrossFit athlete who enjoyed physical challenges. Buriak is survived by his wife, Megan; son, Caulder; parents James and Carol; and sister and brother-in-law, Laura and Eric Zickefoose.

Please join us tomorrow at 7:30, 9, or 10:30am to Honor Corporal Ryan C. McGhee, 21, who was killed in action on May 13, 2009 by small arms fire during combat in central Iraq. He served with 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment of Fort Benning, Ga. This was his fourth deployment, his first to Iraq. Ryan was engaged to Ashleigh Mitchell of Fredericksburg, VA. He is survived by his father Steven McGhee of Myrtle Beach S.C., his mother Sherrie Battle McGhee, and his brother Zachary.
