The Drummond Island Medical Center is run by a nonprofit board and here to serve our community. Offering flu shots each year is just one example of that commitment.

Flu shots are now available for anyone 6 months and older, and you do not need to be a current patient to schedule.

Prescription and non-prescription pickup from Arfstrom Pharmacy will resume on Tuesday, September 2 during the regular delivery time of 4–5 PM.

-Comfortable workout clothes (anything you don’t mind breaking a sweat in)

-Tennis shoes/sneakers (clip-in cycling shoes not required!)

-A water bottle to stay hydrated (bottled water available for those who need it)

✨ 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝘁:

🫂All are encouraged to go at their own pace- and the room always filled with encouragement, not competition.

-Each bike has 2 cupholders, a swt of weights & resistance bands for optional upper-body moves, and a screen to keep you engaged with your workout performance

-We’ll kick off with a warm-up song, then ride through a mix of engaging music with different speeds & resistance levels — making it a full-body workout that can be as intense as you want it to be.

- I’ll guide form & movement, but you set your own pace. Breaks are always welcome and encouraged!

-We’ll finish with an easy cool-down song & some recovery stretches.

-Waivers for new riders will be provided, and I’ll help get everyone adjusted on their bikes before we start.

-Dim lighting with some colorful & entertaining party lights 》Fans to keep you cool 》and a comfortable, welcoming space for all ages & fitness levels.

❗Spin classes are still going strong!❗ With three amazing volunteer instructors leading sessions throughout the week, it’s the perfect time to hop on a bike and give it a try.

❓WHAT IS SPIN❓ Spin classes are all about moving to the music while riding through a variety of movements on a stationary bike. 🎶 You’ll adjust the resistance, try different riding styles, and mix in light weights or other fun strength options. It’s a supportive, upbeat way to move your body and feel good! 🚲

🏥 Meet us in the Medical Center basement (use the door on the right side) for an uplifting spin class suited for every level. Whether you're a seasoned cyclist or new to spinning, our awesome volunteer instructors will guide you through an invigorating workout. 💪 Discover the mental and physical benefits of indoor cycling in a fun, upbeat and supportive environment.

Drummond Island Medical Center is pleased to announce that we are now offering x-ray service.

X-rays are available by appointment on Tuesday mornings with Nichole Sasso-Allison. Nichole retired after a 30-year career with MyMichigan Health, where she served as Director of Radiology at MyMichigan Sault. Having grown up on Drummond Island and returned to live here full-time, she is committed to serving patients at the Medical Center each Tuesday morning. Additional appointments may be added on other days as her schedule allows.

To make sure results are properly coordinated, x-rays will be ordered through DIMC providers. If you are not currently a patient here, you are welcome to establish care with our office so that referrals and follow-up can be handled smoothly.

Please note that DIMC is not a walk-in urgent care clinic, and all x-rays must be scheduled in advance by calling 906-493-5221.

📸 Honoring Our Roots: Dr. Charles F. Thompson

Many in our community remember Dr. Charles F. Thompson, M.D., who served the people of Drummond Island with dedication and compassion from the mid‑1950s until the early 1970s. The Drummond Island Medical Center building was named in his honor to recognize his lasting impact on our community.

You may have noticed that the plaque outside our building is missing. Recently, it fell and unfortunately cannot be repaired. We plan to create a new sign in the future as part of our ongoing plans for the building’s design and improvements. When the time comes, we will proudly display a new tribute to Dr. Thompson and the legacy he left behind.

Since its early days, Drummond Island Medical Center has operated as a non‑profit health facility dedicated to supporting the wellness of our community. Our mission is to provide quality, accessible care for residents and visitors through family medicine, physical therapy, laboratory work, and more.

We have upgraded our facilities over the years to better serve our patients and have plans to continue making improvements to meet the evolving needs of our community, while honoring our founding vision. We also wish to recognize and honor the many great practitioners who have followed Dr. Thompson and those who continue to serve our island today, each contributing greatly to the health and wellbeing of our community.

Looking to find ways to exercise in a group environment, inside or outside? In addition to free spin classes held here at DIMC, yoga classes for all levels are held at township hall and Big Shoal Beach through Germinate Wellness. Check it out!

🧘‍♀️ Last class of July and first class of August coming up this week! 🧘‍♂️

🌱 I’m offering two sessions this time, giving you double the chance to get in some MUCH needed movement. It’s a perfect mix of evening and morning stretches.

🌙 Thursday evening’s class will be a soothing session to help you unwind from the week and ease into the evening.

☀ Friday morning brings another beautiful outdoor class at Big Shoal Beach, designed to ground you in the present and connect you to the nature around you.

TICKS ARE ACTIVE

We’ve seen an uptick in tick activity on the island this season. Here are a few simple ways to protect yourself:

• Wear light-colored clothing to spot ticks more easily

• Tuck pants into socks and shirts into pants when walking in tall grass or woods

• Use insect repellent with DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus

• Stay on marked trails and avoid brushing up against vegetation

• Check yourself, kids, and pets carefully after being outdoors

• Shower soon after coming inside to help remove unattached ticks

If you find a tick attached, remove it promptly with fine-tipped tweezers and monitor the area for signs of rash or infection.
