tiful 17-acre campus that includes a state-of-the-art rehabilitation center, and two rural health clinics: Marshall Browning Medical Clinic and the East Medical Clinic. The East Medical Clinic provides family medicine, surgery, and podiatry services. Marshall Browning Hospital offers inpatient and outpatient care; emergency, medical and surgical services, lab, rehabilitation, diagnostic imaging, and 19 specialty clinics. Our mission is to improve the health and quality of life for the people and communities we serve. In addition, MBH offers a variety of specialty clinics that include 17 specialists from the Southern Illinois and St. This enables patients who require specialist services to remain in their local community without needing to travel out of town. Current specialty clinics offered include Cardiology, Coumadin Clinic, Dietitian Consultation, Diabetes Educator, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology/Hepatology, Nephrology, Pain Management, Podiatry, Pulmonology/Sleep Clinic, Rheumatology, General Surgery, Urology, and Wound Clinic. As many know, Marshall Browning Hospital has been hosting a free senior chair exercise class at Marshall Browning Estates on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 to 11:30 am. (When the weather is beautiful, we sometimes move the class outside.) Due to the growth in these classes, we are pleased to offer a third class every Tuesday from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., beginning June 2. The classes are taught by Cass Vandermeer and are free to the public. This is a wonderful opportunity to improve strength, flexibility, and balance, while meeting new friends. You don't have to travel far to get expert wound care. Dr. Isaac Lowe, who leads our Wound Care Clinic, is a Certified Wound Specialist Physician. He works closely with Chelby, RN, who is a Certified Wound Care Associate. They use a multidisciplinary approach to heal chronic wounds and prevent recurrence. Chronic wounds can be caused by diabetes, poor circulation, traumatic injury, or other conditions.

You'll be thoroughly evaluated and given a personalized care plan at our clinic. To get started or to find out more, call 618.790.7401. Our Wound Care Clinic is located in the East Medical Clinic at 916 N. Washington St. in Du Quoin and is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

May is OSTEOPOROSIS AWARENESS MONTH, and there’s no better time to take your bone health seriously. Strong bones are the foundation of a healthy life.

The Marshall Browning Hospital Imaging Department offers bone density screenings with an advanced DXA imaging system. DXA is one of the best ways to detect early bone loss before fractures or major symptoms develop. The scan is quick (only 10-15 minutes), and you remain fully clothed during the exam. Most insurance plans cover bone density screenings every two years after age 50, but we recommend checking your plan for details before scheduling. Strong bones are important at every age, especially in midlife and beyond. Talk to your primary care provider about a referral and take the first step toward stronger bones!

This week was NATIONAL HOSPITAL WEEK, and we celebrated big. We are so blessed to have such dedicated men and women who keep our hospital running and patients healing. Our Associate Advisory Committee worked hard to create a fun week to show our appreciation. Each day featured a circus theme. Our days included Red & Blue Day with Fire & Ice Snow Cones, Crazy Sock Day with loaded fries and deep-fried Oreos, Wacky Wednesday with an Ice Cream Truck, and Rhyme with No Reason Day with pizza and lemon shakeups. We concluded the week today with a delicious luncheon featuring Tracy Fenton’s BBQ, and our dietary crew prepared the delicious sides. The week also featured a daily scavenger hunt for golden tickets, a design-an-MBH-T-shirt contest, a name-the-snack-trolley contest, a 50/50, and raffle prize drawings. Our very special thanks go to the Associate Advisory Committee, including Carlie Schubert, Sarina Lyerla, Barb Werner, Kiley Kosydor, Robbie Musoiu, Beth Wise, Kraig Weber, and Randi Luthy. What a fantastic week! We hope you enjoy our photos from the many activities.
