A common question families have is whether a hospice patient can “cancel” care and re-start later, and the answer is yes.

Hospice is a voluntary benefit, which means patients can stop services at any time if their goals of care change, their condition improves, or they wish to pursue curative treatments again.

If hospice is discontinued and the patient later experiences a decline in health or decides they want comfort-focused support again, they can re-enroll in hospice as long as they continue to meet eligibility criteria. Many patients move in and out of hospice during the course of their illness, depending on their needs and preferences.

At CCS Hospice, we’re here to help families understand their options, discuss what to expect, and support them in choosing the care pathway that feels right.

Our volunteers offer caregivers a much‑needed break by simply spending time with patients. Love to read? You can share a book with someone who would enjoy the company. Have a friendly pet? Ask us about our pet‑visit program! Not sure where you fit in? We also have opportunities to help in our office. Every role makes a difference.
