July 1, 2025 MedPlus sold to Piedmont healthcare. Many have asked why. The answer is multifactorial. I have been very open with my patients and most of you already know the main forces that have drove me to take the path I have taken. For the sake of the hecklers and uninformed I will take the time here to explain the circumstances that lead to my decision to partner with Piedmont and transition out of day to day clinical practice. Most of you know that I have been battling cancer for the last 18 months. I just took my last chemotherapy treatment July 8th. The treatments were grueling and something I would not wish on my worst enemy. At the moment every indication is that I am cancer free. While I am hopeful about my future, with regard to the cancer, I know I cannot take anything for granted. I have been in medicine/healthcare now for 45 years and at the ripe old age of 65 I do not feel remiss in taking a step back in order to try and refocus my energy on my personal health and my family.

I have done my best to ensure a smooth transition over the next few months. I began noticing patients in May of the anticipated transition and have continued through every social media outlet possible to alert people to the coming changes. Piedmont Urgent care is a superb organization and they fully understand and support the need to accommodate primary care patients during the transition. While Piedmont’s mission is to operate a clinic that is dedicated exclusively to urgent care and occupational medicine (sick visits, injuries and work related care such as work related injuries, physicals and drug screens) Piedmont will assist those who are transitioning to another provider by providing refills for any non controlled substance medications with in reason to allow sufficient time to find a new P*P.
My staff will remain at all sites and will continue to use me as a resource to assist in helping each of you who are transitioning to a new P*P. While I will not be seeing patients after July 31 I will still be plugged in and will ensure in the months to come that all patients have a 90 day supply of their medications. There are numerous primary care physicians to choose from in Dublin and they do not require a referral to establish a relationship with you.

I hope all of you continue to come see us for all your urgent care needs! Thank all of you who have entrusted me with your life over the years. We have shared many tears of joy and some tears of sorrow. I take a piece of every one of you with me as I go on to the next chapter in my life.

I am writing you to let you know that recently sold my clinic operations to Piedmont Healthcare. Piedmont is a cutting edge health care entity with multiple hospitals and more than 75 urgent care clinics in Georgia. I will not be seeing patients in the clinic after July 31, 2025. I will remain on board with Piedmont to continue to provide a supportive role to our providers and to assist in the growth, development and expansion of services in our region.

Piedmont Urgent care is a first class organization and I am confident they will continue our tradition of high quality, compassionate care at an affordable price. Given their vast resources, professional talent and commitment to excellence I fully anticipate Piedmont to take your urgent care experience to a new level.

Piedmont does not provide primary care services and therefore those of you who have used me for your P*P will need to find another physician. In the interim we will make sure you have refills on all of your medications. It is our hope that you will come and see us when you have an illness or injury. You can see a list of offered services on the Piedmonturgentcare.com website.

Additionally, Piedmont Urgent care does not routinely prescribe controlled substances. Patients taking anxiety medications or attention deficit medications will need to find a mental health physician to continue these medications. I will do my best to make sure you have a 90 day supply before I leave July 31, 2025.

I will remain in possession of your medical records and can provide you a copy whenever you need them. To get a copy of your records forwarded to another physician just call 478-272-1463 and I will make sure it is handled.

It has been a honor and pleasure serving you over the years. I am going to miss you but I’m going to carry with me some wonderful memories, some shared loss and a small dose of humility that comes from realizing God is the ultimate healer.
