Many times, it is difficult to spot a loved one with high functioning depression.
This is because they can:
- continue to go to work or school
- try to distract themselves from how they really feel on the inside
- smile or laugh for brief moments
- hide how they truly feel to avoid burdening others or making others feel bad for them
- push themselves to attend social events to make it seem like everything is okay
However, high functioning depression is real! It impacts your work, relationships, and how you feel about yourself.
So, what can you do if you think you may have high functioning depression?
- Engage in light hearted activities that will help shift your mood, such as: listening to uplifting music, watch a funny television show or movie, or make a playlist of inspiring videos.
- Notice when negative, judgmental thoughts come to mind and observe them as a string of words or letters.
- Say "no, thank you" to tasks that absorb too much of your time and energy.
- Write down 5 specific things you are grateful for and five positive qualities about yourself.
- Focus on what you CAN do with the amount of energy you already have, and if you don't have any, ALLOW your body time to rest.
- Find a therapist to talk to about your symptoms.
💫Small changes make a big difference.💫
I believe in you.
