If stress feels overwhelming or emotions feel unmanageable after grief or trauma, your body may be under biochemical strain from prolonged stress exposure. This directly impacts and resilience.

Trauma-informed therapy recognizes that healing can stall when the body is depleted and supports recovery without shaming or pushing harder.

Ever feel like there are multiple โ€œyouโ€™sโ€ inside arguing?

Sometimes healing looks like this:

One part of you says,
โ€œNope. Absolutely not. We are not doing that.โ€

Another part is small.
Scared.
Still holding onto something old.

And then thereโ€™s the adult version of you โ€”
Trying to make sense of both.

Thatโ€™s not you being dramatic.
Thatโ€™s not you being unstable.
Thatโ€™s your nervous system doing exactly what it learned to do.

Parts work helps you understand:
โ€ข Why your protector is so loud
โ€ข What your younger self still needs
โ€ข How to respond instead of react

You are not one flat personality.

Youโ€™re layered.

And every layer makes sense.

Therapists donโ€™t always react out loudโ€ฆ
But internally? We are RIGHT there with you!

There are moments in session when a client shares something and internally Iโ€™m likeโ€”
โ€œAre you kidding?โ€
โ€œThatโ€™s not okayโ€
โ€œYou deserve betterโ€

But hereโ€™s the thing:

My job isnโ€™t to explode WITH you.
Itโ€™s to stay regulated so YOU can process safely.

That doesnโ€™t mean Iโ€™m detached.
It doesnโ€™t mean that I donโ€™t care.
It doesnโ€™t mean Iโ€™m neutral about harmful behavior.

It means Iโ€™m holding steady so you can feel, think, and decide from a grounded place.

Internally?
Iโ€™m cheering.
Iโ€™m rooting for your growth.
Iโ€™m feeling the weight of what youโ€™ve carried.

Youโ€™re not alone.
Youโ€™re not carrying it alone.

I see you.
I believe you.
Even if I appear calm.

Therapists are human too.

Letโ€™s normalize something:

Therapists have internal reactions too.

Sometimes a client says something unexpected.
Or vulnerable.
Or wildly self-aware.
Or drops a plot twist.

And for half a second our nervous system goesโ€”

โ€œOh.โ€

But hereโ€™s the difference:

Weโ€™re trained to regulate.
To stay grounded.
To stay with you.

Youโ€™re not โ€œtoo much.โ€
Youโ€™re not shocking us.
Youโ€™re not overwhelming us.

If anything, weโ€™re honored you trust us with the real stuff.

And yesโ€ฆ occasionally we recover mid-sip of water. ๐Ÿ˜‚

OCD is often misunderstood as liking things neat or organized.
In reality, OCD involves intrusive thoughts, overwhelming anxiety, compulsions, and a deep need for certainty or relief from distress.

These experiences are not preferencesโ€”theyโ€™re symptoms.

Breaking mental health myths helps people feel seen, understood, and more able to reach out for support.

๐Ÿ“ž You donโ€™t have to do this alone. Call Teal Saguaro Wellness at 614-647-HELP.

In this weekโ€™s episode of the Cultivate Calmness Podcast, Kaela explores the meaning behind the word idiopathic โ€” a term often used when medical providers canโ€™t determine the cause of symptoms. But is โ€œwe donโ€™t knowโ€ the end of the story? Drawing from personal experience, client stories, and her functional mental health perspective, Kaela discusses the difference between normal and optimal lab results, why symptoms donโ€™t exist in isolation, and how root causes are often overlooked in traditional care. Using relatable examplesโ€”from vitamin D levels to iron deficiency and organ removalโ€”she encourages listeners to ask better questions, advocate for deeper testing, and look beneath the surface rather than settling for symptom management alone. Healing, she reminds us, often requires going beyond whatโ€™s visible.

Ever notice how the moment you try to be vulnerableโ€ฆ another part of you shuts it down?

In therapy, people often think theyโ€™re โ€œself-sabotaging.โ€
But whatโ€™s usually happening is this:

One part of you wants connection, healing, and change.

Another part says,
โ€œNope. Not safe. Iโ€™m in charge.โ€

That second voice?
Itโ€™s not dramatic.
Itโ€™s not difficult.
Itโ€™s protective.

Protective parts step in when vulnerability feels risky.
They interrupt.
They deflect.
They minimize.
They crack jokes.
They change the subject.

And instead of pushing them away, good parts work gets curious:

What are you protecting?
When did you first have to take on this job?
What are you afraid would happen if you didnโ€™t?

Youโ€™re not โ€œtoo much.โ€
Youโ€™re layered.

And all of your parts make sense.
