Not every thought deserves your attention.

Just because a thought is loud doesn’t mean it’s true.

in therapy, we don’t try to silence you.
We get curious about which voices are showing up, where they came from, and whether they’re actually helping

You’re allowed to question the inner critic.
You’re allowed to invite in something kinder.
That’s part of the work.

In this episode of the Cultivate Calmness Podcast, I share my first personal experience with myofascial release massage and explore the powerful connection between fascia, trauma, and emotional healing. As a holistic, trauma-informed therapist, I discuss how physical and emotional traumas can be stored in the body, how fascia functions as connective tissue that holds these experiences, and why body-based work can complement trauma therapies like EMDR. I reflect on the physical sensations, emotional release, and unexpected insights that emerged during and after the session, while also offering important considerations for anyone curious about myofascial work—especially those already engaged in trauma therapy. This episode invites listeners to consider what the body may still be holding and how intentional, integrated healing can support both mind and body.

Cold exposure activates the vagus nerve, helping the body relearn how to return to calm—something trauma often disrupts long after the event itself.

Trauma-informed therapy works alongside strategies so your body can experience safety again, not just understand it intellectually.

If your body struggles to calm down, call Teal Saguaro Wellness at 614-647-HELP.

What you eat doesn’t just affect your weight—it affects your brain, your mood, and your nervous system.

In this clip, you’ll hear how the brain uses energy differently than the rest of the body—and how certain fuel sources, like ketones, can support brain function. What I want you to notice isn’t about dieting or trends, but this bigger idea:

Your daily inputs matter. Food, stress, sleep, and lifestyle choices all influence how your brain functions and how safe, regulated, and clear you feel.

From a functional mental health perspective, symptoms like anxiety, depression, brain fog, or emotional overwhelm aren’t just “in your head.” They’re often signals that your nervous system and brain energy need support.

This doesn’t replace therapy—it deepens it. When we understand the body-brain connection, healing becomes more compassionate, comprehensive, and sustainable.

✨ Last week at Teal Saguaro Wellness ✨

Kaela Vance, LPCC-S, founder of Teal Saguaro Wellness, presented at our Central Ohio Mental Health Professionals CEU Luncheon. and led a meaningful and engaging presentation on applying functional mental health principles to support deeper, more sustainable client healing.

The room was filled with thoughtful conversation, curiosity, and connection among local mental health professionals—exactly the kind of collaborative energy we aim to cultivate through these events. We are grateful to everyone who joined us and contributed to such a rich learning experience.

At Teal Saguaro Wellness, we believe education, community, and integrative care go hand in hand. We’re proud of Kaela’s leadership and passion for supporting clinicians as they continue to grow and evolve in their work. 🌱

Some weeks in therapy aren’t loud.

They don’t look like breakthroughs or big “aha” moments.

They look like bravery.

🌵Scheduling the first appointment.
🌵Owning your part without self-punishment.
🌵Moving across the country with a nervous system that’s still learning safety.
🌵Calling family you haven’t spoken to in years.
🌵Making time for yourself even when guilt shows up.
🌵Taking the test even though fear came with you.

This is what growth actually looks like.

If any of this resonates with you, you’re not behind.
You’re human.
And you’re not alone.

If this feels calming… your nervous system is doing exactly what it’s meant to do.

What you’re experiencing here is a form of bilateral stimulation — gentle, rhythmic input that alternates from left to right and helps the nervous system regulate.

Some people find this incredibly soothing.
Some people don’t like it at all.
Both are completely normal.

Bilateral stimulation is often used in EMDR therapy, but there are also ways to experience it on your own through sound, music, or movement (you might hear it called BLS or 8D audio).

I’m an EMDR therapist, and while this specific format isn’t something I currently use in session, it can be a supportive tool for calming, grounding, and noticing how your body responds.

If you felt even a small shift — more ease, slower breathing, a sense of settling — that information matters.

Your nervous system is always communicating.
Therapy helps you learn how to listen.

✨ Tip: Headphones work best.
✨ Use only if it feels supportive for you.
