MY REASONS WHY I DO NOT THINK DEMS NEED TO WORRY. BECAUSE THIS ELECTION WILL NOT BE AS CLOSE AS THE POLLS SAY IT IS GOING TO BE.
In 2016, there were a series of events which lined up perfectly to get the 45th president elected.
The very first reason was America's overall sexism. Believe is or not, America is truly very sexist! That's the way it has been, and it STILL is!!! If you want proof, then just go back to high school and re-read your American history books! Women were treated as second class citizens, and didn’t earn the right to vote until much later compared to their male counterparts. It is also the reasons why women tend to get paid relatively lower than men, for essentially doing the job, or sometimes higher jobs. And it didn't help that the contestant from the democratic side in 2016 was a Clinton! Americans truly did not think a woman was up to the task, and if you throw in the fact that the candidate was Hillary Clinton, then you had a good motivation for Republicans to come out in droves to express their true hatred for her with their votes!
Second. America wanted a change of party in the Whitehouse. The preceeding 8 years under the America's first black president, despite his historic and meteoric rise to power, was something America truly wanted to move on from!
Third. There was the mystique of the Republican candidate from New York as a problem solver, a "successful" businessman, and a Washington outsider. Then he started making bold claims that he would build a giant wall to cut America off from our southern neighbors, and force them to pay for its construction! Remember that?
You marry the above-mentioned scenarios with the Clinton email scandal, which was re-opened by James Comey, with a few weeks left to go till election day, as well as the Russia-engineered Wikileaks emails release of the top democratic leadership, and you set up a perfect Swiss cheese scenario where things lined up perfectly to get the republican candidate elected as the 45th president of the United States, despite his opponent winning the popular vote count!
Then the man comes to power, and very quickly we start to see his incompetence! But his party tried to shield his incompetence till the pandemic broke out, and his atrocious leadership came out in the open for all to see. Despite all of that the Republicans tried their possible best to explain his ineptitude with some of the most bizarre excuses they themselves knew were very wrong! The man then gave permission slips to his supporters to unearth and cast their bigoted feelings on anyone who didn't look like them! Remember Charlottesville?
He violated rules and laws, which prior to his ascension to power were NEVER debatable by either side! He was impeached twice in just one term. The only reason he wasn't thrown out of office was the fact that his AG saved his hiney.
America self-corrected, and voted him out of office in 2020, and we know what transpired after that! Since then, he shown America who he truly is, and frankly has frankly, ALWAYS BEEN! He has been convicted in civil court as a woman molester/assaulter, and in criminal court on 34 felony counts.
Surprisingly, he was nominated again!!!!! mostly by what appears to be his cultish coalition! That's when s**t got real!
The people who had hitherto made excuses for him, and the people who had the chance to actually work for the man up close and personal, realized they had to do something!, and for the first time, started to break with their party!
The reasons I think this election won't be close as the polls say it should be, are the following:
In 2016, there were the unknowns!, there was his mystique! there was the outside Washington, "successful businessman" persona that everyone, or at least most Republicans and independents, thought America needed to solve the gridlock in Washington!
Since 2016 though we have come to truly know this man as a very bad person, with ABSOLUTELY no morals, and as a very incompetent person let alone a leader of the free world! There has been that blatant attempt to overthrow the government on January 6th, there has been the convictions, the contant lies! etc, etc!!!!
I mean this has gotten soooooo bad that you now have life-long Republicans coming out to support his opponent, the most qualified female yet to contest the presidency to date, who also happens to be very smart and accomplished woman in her own right, and you start to see the tectonic shift towards the makings of history! I mean you have DICK "FREAKING" CHENEY of all people!!!! coming out to support his opponent and you have to believe the polls are lying to us!.
You see people from his own cabinet have come out to support his opponent! That has NEVER EVER happened before! His own VP DID NOT support him! That NEVER happened in 2016! We started to see a shift away from him during the 2020 elections with the likes of the Lincoln project as well as the Republicans Against Trump groups, but this time around the floodgates have opened. There has been a mass exodus of true, America-loving, commonsense Republicans as well as independents who have not openly opposed his candidacy, but have also openly urged others to vote against him in the coming election.
Then there is the overturn of Roe, a close to a 50 year law which offered protection for women's reproductive rights! The hand-selected SCOTUS justices he picked helped to strip those rights away from women! Since then, every single time that issue has been on a ballot, women, and men, have voted overwhelmingly in favor of restoring those rights to women! And to make matters worse, the issue has been highlighted by the very restrictive abortion laws in over 20 states, which have led to increased maternal mortality in every single state where abortion rights has been stripped from women!
Women are pi**ed as they should be, and they will be out for vengeance, especially since the Republican candidate has openly claimed credit for ROE being overturned!!!
I am no rocket scientist, nor am I any brain sugeon here, but if I look at ALL the aforementioned reasons, and cast that against the backdrop of the candidate from the democratic side, who is very qualified, younger, and offers aspirational leadership, then I do NOT SEE anyway the republican candidate becomes president again!
I have faith in the American people! I do strongly believe that when it comes down to it, there are Republicans who cannot openly support a democratic candidate, as well as independents, but who also know that the very future of this country is truly at risk if the 45th president is allowed to be the 47th president again, and will do the right, and vote to support the preservation our constitution and our way of life!!!
So RELAX FOLKS!!! EVERYTHING IS GOIN' TO ALRIGHT!
IT'S JUST NOT GONNA HAPPEN!
