NOT EVERY SPRAIN IS THE SAME

When it comes to managing swelling in the early phases of healing, kinesiology tape can be an effective tool. While I might use this technique once a year, that doesn’t mean it’s not beneficial—it just has its specific time and place.

Rehab isn’t about using the same approach for every injury. Not every ankle sprain, muscle strain, or swollen joint needs the same cookie-cutter treatment plan. What works for one person may not be right for another, and it’s essential to adapt strategies to the individual.

That’s why I avoid rigid methods or “one-size-fits-all” approaches. The best care comes from understanding your unique needs and using the right tools, even if they’re uncommon. Every detail matters when it comes to your recovery.

At Bax Performance and Rehab, we tailor every plan to you. Don’t settle for less than personalized care—reach out to get back to what you love stronger than ever.

ADVANCED STRATEGIES IN REHAB

Combining electrical stimulation (e-stim) with blood flow restriction (BFR) training can be a game-changer in recovery and rehab. This powerful duo helps target muscle activation while building strength with less load. But here’s the catch—it’s not about passively letting a machine do all the work.

One challenge with traditional e-stim is timing. If there are pauses in your movement, the stimulation doesn’t always sync perfectly with your exercise, limiting effectiveness. That’s where innovative technology comes in. By giving patients control over when to activate muscles and when to let them relax, we can integrate e-stim seamlessly into dynamic exercises, ensuring optimal results.

Recovery isn’t passive, and physical therapy isn’t just lying on a table while machines do the work. It’s about finding tools that assist your active effort. Nothing replaces putting in the work yourself.

At Bax Performance and Rehab, we utilize advanced techniques to keep your recovery effective and engaging. Ready to level up your rehab? Reach out to us!

The Importance of Barbell Based Rehab: Returning Stronger

When you’re coming back from an injury, it’s essential to keep your rehab aligned with your level of training. If you have a history of pulling 405+ off the ground, your physical therapist shouldn’t be assessing your technique with a PVC pipe—or even just with 135. Returning to form after an injury isn’t about starting from scratch; it’s a phase within your training cycle that requires a plan as intentional as any other part of your program.

Rehabbing from an injury is not something you figure out on your own, nor is it something someone can fully understand from reading about it in a book. You need a professional who’s experienced with athletes like you, who understands the demands of strength training, and who shares that passion for performance.

At Bax Performance and Rehab, we’re here to guide you through each step, making sure your comeback is not only safe but also strong. If you’re ready to approach your rehab as part of your training and get back under the bar with confidence, reach out to us. Let’s turn this phase into a comeback.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

When you get injured will you ask “why me?”

When you see the doc and they tell you surgery is required will you be frustrated?

When there is a set back in your rehab, or minimal progress made, will you blame others?

When the doctor looks you in the face and says “there’s nothing else that can be done” will you be defeated?

With all the time that’s been spent on your recovery will you eventually quit?

Will you fall victim to what has been done to you and accept a new life where you can’t do the 1 thing that you love?

Or will you continue to search?

Will you continue to seek the best care? Find the best techniques. The best technology. The best practitioner.

Find YOUR guide to reclaiming YOUR life.

Tons of people walk through the doors or BPR with your story. Take accountability and reclaim your identity.

REFRAME REHAB

Some of us are just built different. Our minds work in ways that other people do not understand. The feeling of stepping into a private training facility just feels like home. Chalking your hands and gripping the knurling moments before action takes your mind somewhere else. A place that none of your problems exist and it’s just you and the weight. You vs You.

If you’ve been in this for long enough you’ve probably gotten banged up here and there. Learned how to overcome it and keep on moving forward. But sometimes pain lingers for too long. So you decide to go and see your doctor.

What do they tell you?
1. Take it easy, and stop pressing overhead or doing this or that (something they read in a book but never actually lived it)
2. Send you to PT who does not understand the difference between conventional and sumo or gets offended when your sn**ch hurts

I hope if your reading this you understand the answer to your problems are not in a Dr’s office with a pill. Or a PTs office with a rubber band and a 2lb weight. The answer is right where you love to be. IN A GYM. With a barbell, a heavier kettlebell, and your culture.

So if your treatment program is a prescription of meloxicam and a green rubber band it’s time to reframe your rehab. Reach out to the experts at Bax Perfformance and Rehab. We would love to help.

INVEST EARLY

Invest Early in Injury Prevention and Performance

Over the years I have had a lot of middle school and high school athletes come in with minor injuries. Quad strains, ankle sprains, shoulder tendonitis. These are usually things that get resolved in 1 or 2 visits and are able to return to sports without pain. But the major key is addressing the problems that cause the pain.

Often it’s usually due to a muscle imbalance or a preferred learned movement that is not sustainable for optimal athletic performance. Once it’s addressed the fun begins.

Preferably under the guidance of a rehab specialist and a strength coach you can then build piece by piece. Getting better and better with quality of movement and production of power. With this regimen you can separate yourself as a youth athlete from the pack and dominate in sports.

If you’re a youth athlete with chronic ankle sprains, and every time you seek help you’re given a rubber band to work your foot and stand on a blue pad, maybe the problem is more than just your ankle. Reach out to Bax Performance and Rehab to get out of pain, get a bar on your back, and have some fun crushing it at a high level.

Dope Things with Dope People

It is so amazing to help others in the strength and performance world get after it at a high level without pain. It’s difficult to find someone to turn to that understands the demand of a sport and what it takes to get back to a high level.

Having the trust of the athletes I work with means the world to me and I do not take it lightly.

A ton of people ask “what do you do?”

I’ve had many patients of mine describe what I do, but one recently said something that resonated with me.

When it comes to purely pain limiting performance, I look at the body like a car. I understand the role of the engine, brakes, steering, tires etc. I watch how it runs, take it all apart and inspect each piece. Clean it, change the fluids, tighten things up and get it on the race track ASAP.

If you’re in search of a performance based physical therapist please reach out to us at Bax Performance and Rehab.

BREAK THE CYCLE

A lot of patients that I meet overthink their pain. This limits their body’s ability to perform because they’re always hesitant in the face of the possibility of pain. Most of the time it causes poor movement patterns. That increases someone’s pain because of overuse in a certain direction. That causes more pain. That causes the person to overthink it more. I think you can see where this is going.

BREAK THE CYCLE

If you’re trying to figure it out on your own with some nerd who can’t do a push up, or looking for the quick cure on Dr. Google, good luck. Get on board with an expert who understands movement at a high level. Get the mind and body linked in the absence of pain. Then show the world your true potential.

No one should be limited by their pain. If you feel stuck in the cycle, reach out to us at Bax Performance and Rehab. We would love to help.

THANK YOU

In the times of the hardest adversity we have faced, we can have the most negative emotions. We can question everything. Second guess the future.

But I honestly cannot be more thankful for breaking my leg in 2007. Without me even knowing it, that moment was the biggest turning point of my life.

I am so fortunate to have that experience because it left a lasting impression on me. Every single day I get the opportunity to meet someone facing their own adversity. Something that may be the hardest challenge they have ever faced. And be the person needed to guide them to the next steps in their journey.

I could have never imagined how fortunate I would be. Trust the journey.

HIGHER STANDARDS

DO NOT GIVE UP on having a higher standard for your physical performance. Injuries may try and derail the journey. Pain might impede the progress. But always strive to perform at the next level.

NEVER SETTLE on a low standard for your healthcare team. Always have people around you that raise the bar in their profession and produce excellence with their clients.

BE RELENTLESS in your journey of getting back to your sport at the highest level. Accept the 1% better every day mentality. Focus on your sleep, diet, and training. And block out the noise.

If your standards are not being met in your journey back from pain and injury, reach out to us at Bax Performance and Rehab. We would love to help.

Unload The Spine

Although strength is often the solution in the long run to most problems, it’s usually not the solution immediately for those at the pinnacle of strength.

Often it’s more about decreasing the irritation resulting from strong muscles being used over and over. We all do things that we love frequently, and when it’s at a high level, it can take a toll on the body without the appropriate recovery regimen.

It’s often that I start working with athletes dealing with low back pain on their hands and knees. It gives us the opportunity to unload the spine and move in a pain free way. This allows us to understand better how to decrease excessive stress on joints, muscles and discs.

If you’re jacked and have back pain, and the nerd who can’t do a pull up is suggesting you need to get stronger, it’s probably not the answer. Work with those that live it and understand how to get you back under the bar pain free.

Reach out to us at Bax Performance and Rehab. We would love to help.
