“With summer providing such abundant vitality, it helps to be mindful about what we are spending this energy on before the slower half of the year comes back around. It is worth soaking up what matters and not taking this time with longer days for granted. Think about the seeds you planted in the spring of your life, and the fruits that are ripening in summer. Continue watering what you plan to harvest when the time comes. Fill your cup this summer and let it warm you all year.” –Erin Blank

From savoring fresh seasonal foods to connecting with nature’s rhythms, the summer solstice is all about embracing this season’s abundance. Keep reading to gain inspiration on how to harvest the fruits of your efforts from this year so far and fill your cup for the months ahead.

📣 Heads-Up for Iowa CDL/CLP Drivers

🚛Starting June 23, 2025, DOT medical exam results will go fully digital:

🩺 Certified Medical Examiners ie: Dr. Mickie Yager DC, CACCP will submit CDL/CLP physical results electronically via the FMCSA’s National Registry by midnight the next day

🏛️ The FMCSA will then forward the data straight to state agencies—including Iowa DOT—updating licenses automatically, no paper submission required

📄 Drivers won’t need to manually submit or carry a medical card after 15 days post-exam (though keeping a paper copy for a few months or always😉 is wise)

❗ Non-CDL drivers still require and carry paper certificates—this change is CDL/CLP specific

*PLEASE SCHEDULE WELL BEFORE your current certificate expires, as the results could take days to be posted to driver's record.

*PLEASE make sure your identifying information(Drivers License) is updated and correct or the transmission will be delayed

Summer Heat & Your Spine (and Joints!): Hydration is Key! 💧

💦 Why Hydration Matters for Your Spine and Joints
Our bodies are made up of around 60% water, and that includes the fluid within your joints and spinal discs. These discs act like cushions between the vertebrae in your spine, and your joints rely on synovial fluid to stay lubricated and move smoothly. When you’re dehydrated, both your spinal discs and your joints lose some of their flexibility and shock-absorbing ability. This can lead to stiffness, discomfort, and even an increased risk of injury.

🔑 Tips to Stay Hydrated in Hot Weather

Drink Regularly: Even if you're not thirsty, try to drink water consistently throughout the day. This keeps your discs and joints lubricated, which is key to preventing aches and pains.

Add Electrolytes: The heat can deplete your body’s electrolytes, which are crucial for maintaining fluid balance. Adding a pinch of himalayan sea salt or drinking electrolyte-infused water can help replenish them.

Eat Hydrating Foods: Hydrating foods like watermelon, cucumbers, and oranges provide extra water and nutrients to support joint and spinal health.

Monitor Your Body: Signs like dizziness, dry mouth, or muscle cramps are often early warning signals of dehydration. Listen to your body!

🚶‍♂️ Move & Stretch
Staying active is great for your overall health, but in hot weather, it’s especially important to stay hydrated before, during, and after physical activity. This helps keep your muscles, joints, and spine in their best condition, reducing the risk of discomfort or injury.

Taking care of your spine and joints goes hand-in-hand with maintaining proper hydration, especially as the heat rises. So schedule your chiropractic adjustment, drink up, stretch out, and keep your body moving smoothly this summer! 🌞
