đź’™ New Year, New Awareness đź’™

As we step into January, it’s a powerful time to check in on how you’re really feeling after birth.
Not every postpartum mood change is the same, and knowing the difference can help you get the right support:

🔹 Baby Blues: Temporary mood swings, tearfulness, irritability; usually resolve within 2 weeks
🔹 Postpartum Depression (PPD): Persistent sadness, low energy, hopelessness, loss of interest; may last months without treatment
🔹 Postpartum Anxiety (PPA): Excessive worry, racing thoughts, panic; can interfere with daily life

✨ Early recognition leads to earlier support and recovery.

And remember, perinatal mental health conditions can also include OCD, Bipolar Mood Disorders, PTSD, and Psychosis.

đź’™ You are not alone, and help is available.

If you need support now:
đź”· Call or text the Postpartum Support International HelpLine at 800-944-4773 (no diagnosis needed)
đź”· Call or text the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline at 1-833-852-6262
đź”· In a crisis, call or text 988

“The nervous system must be regulated to maintain emotional balance. Speaking of balance, adjustments can help to support the body with sympathetic to parasympathetic shifts and vice versa. As already stated, chiropractic care can reduce cortisol spikes, which are responsible for increased stress. Let’s face it…when we are upset, our muscles get tight, and our stress response is increased. Tense muscles can have a negative effect on our well-being. Chiropractic care can release tension and alleviate this unwanted pressure and stress.” – Heather Lynn, BCDNM

“In 2012, I was invited to visit recess at one of Boston’s public elementary schools. I was appalled to discover that these poor kids, regardless of grade level, had just one 15-minute recess a day. I then learned that this was true of all the public elementary schools in Boston and, in fact, was true of many throughout the country. Making children sit so long at desks without more breaks is, in my mind, child abuse. It damages both mind and body. I have never been able to do, and fortunately have never been required to do, what kids in our schools are required to do today.” – Peter Gray, PhD

Research shows that when children have frequent, unstructured play breaks, they’re happier, less stressed, more focused, and even perform better academically. True education considers the whole child, not just test scores, and recess is one of the most powerful tools we have for supporting healthy development.
