2026 Senior Nursing Student Spotlight!
💙Virginia Speltz💙
💙Hometown: Rockford, IL
💙What Inspired You to Become a Nurse?
I became a nurse because I wanted to challenge myself and make a real difference. I am naturally outgoing, and nursing gives me the chance to use that part of who I am to help people when they're feeling vulnerable.
💙What Are Your Career Goals?
After graduation I plan to move down to Fort Lauderdale, FL and work at John Hopkin's Children's Hospital.
💙What Do You Love Most About Being a Spartan?
What I love most about being a Spartan is the ability to stay involved on campus while still balancing the demands of nursing school. As a former student-athlete, I was able to work multiple jobs and participate in the Student Nursing Association at both the school and state levels. I am also so grateful for the friendships I have made this year in my small nursing class. It is a tight knit group of amazing people who make me laugh every single day.
💙Do You Have Any Advice for Incoming Nursing Students?
It is hard but you're more capable than you realize. Do not compare yourself to anyone - you're on your own path. But lean on your classmates; they understand more than anyone.

2026 Senior Nursing Student Spotlight!
💙Chloe Hild 💙
💙Hometown: West Chicago, IL
💙What Inspired You to Become a Nurse?
I've always been interested in medicine, but I realized I wanted to be a nurse when I saw how much it mattered to really be there for people. My mom, who's been an educator her whole life, showed me what it looks like to make others feel seen and supported. Nursing felt like the path where I could do the same, using science and compassion to help people through some of their hardest moments.
💙What Are Your Career Goals?
My goal after graduation is to move back to the Chicagoland area and work in pediatric psychiatric nursing. Mental healthcare is where my heart is, and I'm committed to making sure kids and adolescents get the support and compassion they deserve.
💙What Do You Love Most About Being a Spartan?
What I love most about being a Spartan is the people. I've met lifelong friends here at UD, and I've always felt genuinely supported by my professors. UD has given me relationships and mentorships that I know will last far beyond graduation.
💙Do You Have Any Advice for Incoming Nursing Students?
Enjoy the journey, even when it feels overwhelming because it goes by so quickly. Nursing school can feel overwhelming at first, but you grow so much along the way. Remember that learning is lifelong and you're not expected to know everything right away. Stay curious, stay teachable, and give yourself grace.

Shout out to Stone Hill communities for letting our junior students come and learn. We even got a competitive game of euchre going. The students worked on communication, head to toe assessments, vital signs, and they did a great job. We also had students at Hawkeye and the villa so shout out to all of them for all their help and support in teaching our future nurses.

Our senior nursing students took part in a high-fidelity birthing simulation this morning and absolutely rose to the challenge. These hands-on experiences help prepare out future nurses for real-world patient care, and we couldn’t be more proud of their hard work and dedication!

And the best part?
