It is estimated that 1 in 5 people will be diagnosed with a form of skin cancer in their lifetime, and it is the most common type of . The good news is that most skin cancer diagnoses are treatable especially if they are caught early.

The even better news is that skin cancer is largely preventable by taking precautionary measures when spending time in the sun and avoiding tanning beds.

If you've got a day in the sun planned, make sure to protect yourself from UV damage that can lead to skin cancer. Some ways you can do that are:
Use sunscreen - typically an SPF 30 or higher is recommended and remember to reapply every few hours and even more often if you are in the water
Wear protective clothing of a darker hue to shield your skin from the sun
Wear a hat and sunglasses to protect the top of your head and eyes from damaging rays

Even though you may be tempted to open your windows when the weather is nice, you may want to think twice if you suffer from . is the peak month for spring seasonal allergies, specifically from tree, grass, and w**d pollen. Keeping windows closed can help minimize your exposure. Also, using a HEPA filter with your air conditioning, and making sure to shower when you come in from outdoors will help keep the allergens outside where they belong.

Over-the-counter medications can also help alleviate allergy symptoms, particularly if you start taking them a few weeks before you know you'll need them. You could also try nasal rinses, steam inhalation, and warm or cold compresses to help relieve sinus issues. Make sure to clean your home regularly to get rid of tracked-in allergens and wear sunglasses when outside to protect your eyes from pollen.

Led by Integrated Cancer Center team members, this support group was created with every cancer patient in mind, no matter their cancer journey stage. It is also open to caregivers, family members, and supporters.
