Thanks to Kellie Jane Cook and Boys & Girls Club of Greater Dubuque for creating space to share some of our practices and truths from The Well. Along with the poses the kids were encouraged to love themselves and others, know they are strong and that they matter!

Every spring, I find myself coming back to the Yamas and Niyamas.

Not as a religion.
Not as something to replace my faith.

But as ethical teachings — practical guidelines — that help us live with more balance, awareness, and integrity.

I read my Bible every single day. Scripture is my foundation. It shapes how I think, how I pray, and how I live.

The Yamas and Niyamas are something I revisit seasonally — almost like a reset. A gentle check-in. A way to reflect on how I’m showing up in the world, in my relationships, and within myself.

They are simply teachings about how to live well.

The Yamas (how we relate to the world around us):
• Ahimsa – Non-violence (in thought, word, and action)
• Satya – Truthfulness
• Asteya – Non-stealing
• Brahmacharya – Wise use of energy
• Aparigraha – Non-grasping

The Niyamas (how we relate to ourselves):
• Saucha – Cleanliness or purity
• Santosha – Contentment
• Tapas – Discipline
• Svadhyaya – Self-study
• Ishvara Pranidhana – Surrender to God

For me, these teachings align beautifully with biblical principles — love, contentment, surrender, truth, discipline, and grace.

Every March, as the seasons begin to shift, I like to reflect on them. To ask:
Where am I clinging?
Where am I striving?
Where can I soften?
Where can I trust God more?

If you’re curious, we’ll be exploring these together at our Spring Reset: Embodying the Yamas & Niyamas for Balance on March 22. It’s a space to reflect, journal, breathe, move gently, and reconnect.

Not to adopt a new religion.
But to live more intentionally.

If that sounds like something your heart needs this spring, I’d love to have you join us.

✨ Welcome Soda to The Well ✨

We’re so excited to officially introduce Soda Zelene to our community.

Soda believes movement is more than exercise — it’s a way home to yourself.

With more than 500 hours of training in yoga, functional movement, somatics, and Pilates, she brings both depth and intention to every class. Her teaching blends strength, mobility, and embodied awareness to help you feel grounded, connected, and resilient from the inside out.

You can find Soda primarily teaching Tuesday and Thursday mornings — and we’ll be sure to share when she’s offering an afternoon class so everyone has the opportunity to experience her.

From rural Kentucky and now rooted here in Dubuque, she’s already a beautiful addition to The Well.

Come meet her. Come move. Come home to yourself.

Have you ever had a reaction that felt bigger than the moment?

One minute everything is fine.
The next you’re overwhelmed… crying… spiraling… wondering what just happened.

You tell yourself you’re overreacting.
But your body feels like it’s in danger.

This might be an emotional flashback.

I wrote a new blog post sharing a personal experience and breaking down:

• What emotional flashbacks actually are
• Why they happen (amygdala hijacking + nervous system triggers)
• Signs you may be experiencing one
• Practical tools to calm your body
• How yoga and safe community support healing

If you’ve ever felt confused by your emotional reactions, this will help you make sense of what’s happening — and remind you that you’re not broken.

Healing begins with awareness.

And if you’re looking for a gentle, supportive space to regulate your nervous system, The Well is here. You don’t have to do this alone.
