Clarke University Athletics and Mental Health America of Dubuque County are partnering this weekend to raise awareness of mental health struggles.
23% of Americans face mental health struggles every year and 46% of them develop the mental health issue before the age of 14. This equates to over 50 million Americans dealing with this struggle, yet so many feel alone in their fight. Their battles include depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, substance use problems and many more. It's the goal of Mental Health America to let these individuals know they are not alone and to help connect them with resources to help. September is Su***de Awareness Month. In 2023 alone over 49,000 people completed su***de. Over 2 million consider su***de yearly, with nearly one million of that number being children aged 12-17. You can make a difference. Educate yourself about mental health struggles, learn to listen with an open heart and have hard conversations, know what resources are available, and take care of yourself! Self-care is essential for all mental well-being, and a person cannot give more than they have. Lastly, remember you are not alone in your personal struggle with mental health or if you are caring for someone who is struggling.
Mental Health America will host a table during Clarke University volleyball, soccer, and football games on Saturday. We will have staff and volunteers on hand to answer questions, provide information, and connect you to resources!
