As a professional Black woman in education, there were moments when I dealt with

🔺Microaggressions from others who lack cultural awareness

🔺Fear of being labeled difficult in predominantly white educational spaces which caused me to suppress emotions which led to internal emotional exhaustion and stress

🔺Lack of culturally competent leaders in educational spaces

🔺Unsafe spaces to vent or express vilnerabilities without fear of judgment

The list is exhausting.

🔴What seemed like minor nuances, overtime landed me in the nurse office.

🔴It landed me being asked by the nurse if I wanted her to call an ambulance because my blood pressure was high and the room wouldn’t stop spinning.

All of this on top of carrying the roles of mom and wife.

The physical, mental, and emotional toll of being a woman carrying multiple roles with many offering social and psychological distress means basic self-care that only emphasizes beauty is an incomplete process.

Why is this a mistake? Because you'll forever look for the world and outside sources to make you happy.

I want to encourage you today to make 2023 your year of focus.

THE YEAR WHERE YOU FOCUS ON YOURSELF! THE YEAR YOU FOCUS ON MAKING YOU HAPPY!

Make no mistake. Self-care is important but that's hardly what I'm talking about.

I'm talking about taking a journey that's even more powerful.
