Hey there, I am Savannah! Welcome to North Shore Mental Health Services! I am glad you are here! Life can be a roller coaster. At times we stick our arms in the air enjoying the ride, and other times, we close our eyes and get scared. This shows how difficult and scary our journey through life can be. As a therapist and as a human being, I want you to feel welcomed, safe, and heard. Everyone has their own unique story. Our stories are what makes us who we are. You are truly the expert of your own life, and I will walk alongside you, listen with empathy, and meet you where you are at. You do not have to face it alone. Let’s ride this roller coaster together!

I value the importance of creating a non-judgemental, open space where everyone can share their vulnerabilities, struggles, resiliency, and stories. I will come forward with kindness, support, and care. This will be a collaborative experience together, with you, and your family. We can only change if we are ready to change. Change is truly a scary thing. I want to help normalize these scary feelings together.

I am passionate about working with those who are dealing with transitions and changes in their lives whether that means with individuals, families, couples, children, adolescents, or adults. These transitions may look like grief and loss, transitioning to college, or others. Humans are meant to be connected to their inner-being and those around them. Diane Gehart said, “Being connected to other people – listening and being heard – allows us to remember who we were, who we are, and who we are becoming.” In this therapeutic space, we will work together to empower who you are becoming.
I graduated from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota with a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and am currently working towards licensure under supervision. When I am not practicing therapy, I love to hike, go horseback riding, and explore new things with my husband. I look forward to meeting you and hearing your story

I am pleased to introduce you to Erin Durkee, LAMFT. Erin is a somatic therapist who joined NSMHS this summer and we're so excited to have her as part of the team. Welcome, Erin!

Read more about Erin's work here:

"People encounter many different issues in their lives, from car accidents and bike crashes to complex early childhood trauma experiences, chronic pain, every day anxiety and worries. I work with individuals, couples and families to improve their quality of life across complex issues of identity, trauma, early life experiences, family issues, stress reactions and challenges in regulation and nervous system imbalances. My person centered approach is about meeting folks where they are at and exploring together the patterns they wish to change, develop resilience and repatterning responses. I focus on empowering people to make choices that work for them in their lives using Somatic Therapy modalities like Sensorimotor Processing, movement and mindfulness as well as Psychodynamic, Ecological, Humanistic and Family Systems approaches.

"I finished a graduate degree in Somatic Psychotherapy from the California Institute of Integral Studies and am currently licensed as an LAMFT in the state of Minnesota and working towards full independent licensure as an LMFT. With 10 years of experience on the West Coast as a cyclist, trail runner and myofascial bodyworker, I am passionate about the intersection of movement and functional patterns in the body with psychology and trauma recovery.

"In my free time, I can probably be found running around in the woods with my dog, Bear."

It’s hard to know what to say in times like these. We do know it’s okay to be angry, sad, scared or tender. We stand with a person’s right to choose and we’re along for this fight.

I am so excited to introduce Samantha Rohl as our newest addition to NSMHS. Sam is joining the team with incredible experience and motivation to bring change and healing to her clients. Welcome, Sam!

"Change can be difficult, but some of our most difficult times can be our greatest opportunities for growth and healing. It can be challenging and rewarding to make changes in your life and in your relationships. Therapy is a place to gather tools that help you identify your feelings, better understand yourself, and manage uncomfortable emotions. I aim to create an empathetic and trusting environment as wells as a relationship in which you can feel safe, seen, heard, and respected to discover areas of yourself that need healing.

"I am a recent graduate from Southwestern College-Santa Fe with a master’s degree in Art Therapy and Counseling, working towards my independent licensure. I use a trauma-informed, person-centered, strength-based approach to meet you where you are. I believe everyone holds the natural capacity to come to their own solutions while gaining insights from their life experiences. My background includes working with at-risk youth, addiction and recovery, and domestic, sexual, and child abuse. I can work with individuals who may be dealing with relationship, intimacy, sexuality, and gender issues.

If you’d like, we can use the arts to help provide insight or new pathways into relieving stressors and deal with anxiety, depression, relationships, trauma, loss, or pain. The use of art therapy directives can be a tool for those who prefer a more non-verbal modality or for times when words are too hard to express. I believe you are resilient, have the ability to heal, resolve issues and lead a life in which you feel empowered and fulfilled. Artistic ability is not required"

We are so dang grateful to be adding another solid human being and talented therapist to the team. Welcome to NSMHS, Sonja!

More about this rad individual: “I grew up in northern Minnesota and attended the University of MN Duluth for my undergraduate education. I graduated from St. Mary’s University in South Minneapolis in 2014 with a master’s degree in Counseling and Psychological Services. I have held the license of Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor since 2016 and have worked in multiple settings with children, teens, and adults including ARMHS and ILS work, CTSS, and therapy in residential, day treatment, and community-based outpatient mental health settings.

I believe in the power of healing and growth that therapy provides. I offer that healing and growth through a variety of means in my sessions through holding space for my clients to be their authentic selves. I also hold space through talking, mindfulness and silence, writing, and through the symbolism of art and play. I work with trauma informed, person-centered, and social justice lenses from several modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, attachment-focused play therapy, narrative, and strengths-based interventions. I primarily work with kids (ages 10 & up), teens, and young adults and enjoy working with client’s families when that is a fit. Together, we develop a plan for our time together and check-in along the way.

I am passionate about my work but in my spare time I enjoy being a mom, spending time outside, learning new things (most recently knitting and becoming a better cook), plant medicine and gardening, a good British mystery novel, travel, and generally working to become a better human.
