Vasomotor Symptoms and use of Estrogen. Vasomotor symptoms (hot flashes and night sweats) last on average 7-10 years and over 70% of women experience them. They can significantly affect a women’s quality of life and cause sleep disturbances which can lead to depression, fatigue, irritability, and anxiety. Though the physiology is not fully understood, the gradual decline or fluctuation of estradiol has been shown to be the causative factor. Due to this strong association, HRT has been demonstrated to be the most effective treatment against those hot flashes that are moderate to severe.

This is great for Women’s Health! Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is used to describe the replacement for hormones, which can be synthetic or bioidentical. The term bioidentical HRT refers to hormones that are identical to the chemical structure to that of endogenous (what our bodies produce) human hormones. Synthetic hormones have a different structure than human hormones. During the next couple of days we will be talking about the benefits of hormones. We work with a great compounding pharmacy (bioidentical hormones) to help patient navigate this HRT world and benefit from its therapy. Come see us!
