✴️How does exercise affect your appetite?
🔸Current evidence indicates that walking does not consistently suppress appetite or reduce cravings in a clinically meaningful way, nor does it reliably decrease carbohydrate consumption or energy intake in most individuals. Acute bouts of moderate-intensity walking typically do not elicit compensatory increases in hunger or energy intake, allowing for a net energy deficit that may support weight management, but subjective appetite and intake are generally unchanged in the short term.[1][2][3]
🔸The American Heart Association and the American College of Sports Medicine both recommend walking as an effective aerobic exercise to reduce HbA1c and improve insulin sensitivity.[6][7][8][9] However, walking does not acutely “stabilize” blood glucose in healthy individuals, but rather contributes to improved glycemic control over time.
🔸For joint health, the American College of Rheumatology and the American College of Sports Medicine recommend walking as a safe, joint-friendly activity for individuals with knee and hip osteoarthritis, with no evidence of accelerated disease progression at recommended activity levels.[10][11] Walking is suitable for most age groups and can be performed in various settings.
