I just finished putting the 50 cal T/C renegade flintlock back together I acquired from a friends brother;
after some alterations and cleaning up. Took the lock apart, got rid of the coil spring bind, properly fit the sear, sear lever, and plate so when screws are tight no binding. Cleaned up the fly and tumbler, polished out the frizzen spring where it contacts the frizzen, polished the contact point of the frizzen where it meets the spring; they often have a casting ridge, cleaned and properly set the triggers. The lock is much faster now.
filed the flash hole / channel liner smooth and flush to the barrel. slightly flared the face of the flash hole.
Did some additional inletting to bring the lines in around the lock and trigger guard.
Touched up and aged the barrel a bit to suite the age of the gun getting rid of rust etc.
Now I need to make up some good flints( spals just arrived)
and work up a good round ball load with FFF powder (plan on using one powder to load and prime)
work up a nice sharp cracking and accurate load then adjust the sights to 75 yards point of aim.

warm weather EDC suggestions.
With the summer months we wear light clothes most often not layers. For those who carry every day this can become problematic.
Appendix carry is popular with the shirt over the top; simple and easy right?. Well if your t-shirt or other shirt is not loose fitting you "imprint" heavily.
I see concealed carry people with a full imprint of their EDC blatantly showing all the time or their shirt it too short to cover fully and the shirt has ridden up over all or part of their weapon.
so here are some suggestions.
buy some loose fitting shirts. If t-shirts get the long / tall ones that sit lower on your waist line.
Weare darker colors and or patterns that help break up any imprint out line.
regular shirts? get ones that are snap closed with false buttons that allow you to easily get the shirt open and out of the way.
if strong side carry is used or appendix is used.
For pocket carry drop to one of the small "micro" or "Sub compact" guns in say 380 acp, 32 acp or even 22 rimfire; get a good pocket "sticky" holster to go with it.
With today's bullet technology the terminal performance can be impressive to say the least at civilian self defense range even in 22 rimfire. Remeber any gun is better than no gun and there are plenty of people dead from being hit with 22 rimfire bullets. ( remember the mantra; 3 yards (9'), 3 rounds, 3 seconds)
Practice with what ever weapon you carry and be able to hit inside a 6 inch circle at zero to say ten yards(30') with that warm weather EDC.
Don't scrimp on your carry ammunition; buy good quality ammunition; the best you can afford and buy enough so you can shoot some so you know where it hits compared to your practice ammunition.
In addition don't discount Pepper spray as a first line of defense.
I know it does not work on everyone but neither does a 44 mag at times. However it does give you a less lethal option that has some range that allows limited distancing from an attacker(s)
Hope this helps.

FYI as of August first Aguilla, S&B, and other imported ammunition is going to be subject to price hikes due to tariffs. FYI these countries have been screwing the USA for decades so don't complain.

Spoke with the NRA yesterday by email/chat.
Asked about getting a new Life Member card made up ( I have been a life member since 1987) and getting my subscription to American Rifleman re-activated after it having been taken away since the "digital option" came into play some 20 years ago. I asked to return to receiving print copy.
I was asked if I wanted to become a "life endowment" member for $250.00 dollars and that it was implied would solve all the issues and get me a new life member card and printed American Riflemen magazine reactivated. I declined.
That $250.00 dollars will now go to Gun Owners of America.

Just acquired a T/C renegade flintlock kit gun in fifty caliber. Need to disassemble and clean and tune the lock so it is fast and smooth.
Also clean and tune the set trigger, tweek the flash hole a bit with small center drill.
Add some silver and brass tacks here and there.
Find the round ball load it likes using three F and see if I can take a Deer or Bear with it this year.
Think a fifty yard sight in about two inches above the hold should be good to about 125 yards if need be. But most deer I shoot are at thirty to sixty yards

FYI for those of you with older SxS and O/U shotguns and some early pumps that use or can use short shells of low recoil.
2 5/16ths up to 2 3/4.
I just communicated with RST maker of specialty shotgun shells for older shotguns and short chambered shotguns.
Yes your modern SxS, O/U and single shot shotguns can use these shot shells too if you are tired of your 12 ga beating you to death or just want an effective soft shooting load. RST is your choice.
They have Bismuth and lead offerings for that old Parker, L C Smith, etc. that won't shake it apart or damage the barrel(s)
You can order direct from RST by going to their web site,
At present they are only selling in house.

Hope this is helpful

July Fourth 1776 the year and day America was born as we know it with a unique concept of governance. The people governing themselves via a Constitutional Republic.
July fourth 2025 America has come far. We have given full control of governance back to government. We no longer self govern' we are governed by a bloated corrupt abomination of the government our founders created. We have seeded all responsibility and power for our future freedom and rights, right back to an elite aristocracy and corrupt bureaucracy that in 1776 we declared freedom from.
Sad so, so, so sad

Our Story

Thorr Gunsmithing is now located at 1575 Hooksett Road, Hooksett NH 03106. Behind Riley's Sports Center in the same lot behind the main store on the left.

Thorr Gunsmithing offers general gunsmith services and repair. At this time we do not offer machining services but have excellent referrals who do provide those services. It is planed to add some machining services in the latter part of 2018.

I Les Seaboyer the owner am a graduate of the Pennsylvania Gun Smith School in 1995 and have serviced over four thousand fi****ms since that time.

While there are some fi****ms that I will referrer to other Gunsmiths most I will service here at the shop. Stock refinish and repair, drill and tap, stock shortening and regrinding of recoil pad or butt plate (if possible) or adding a recoil pad or butt pad grind to fit as needed. General cleaning and servicing of fi****ms. From basic field strip and clean to detailed strip and clean.
