Edwards Family Vision / Duncan Opticians Providing family-focused, high-tech eye care in Duncan, OK since 1985. New patients welcome! Source: Medical Center Optical

Duncan Opticians provided specialized professional eye care since 1985. We had the first complete lab in Duncan and staff certified by the American Board of Opticianry. We filled all doctors prescriptions as well as sell, adjust and repair eyewear. As of August 2015 we still do everything you just read about, however, we got a facelift, a new name and a doctor. Nathaniel David Edwards, OD PLLC, the son of Dan and Cindy Edwards completed optometry school and bought the business. Dr. Edwards now sees patients in office for routine exams, contact lens exams, refractions, and full eye health management. Book your appointment today with "Edwards Family Vision"

"It is just as important who you have fill your written prescription, as it is whom you have write it. A doctor's prescription is only as good as the optician fitting it to the patient. If the accuracy of the fitting is 20 percent off where it should be then the clarity of the vision will probably be 20 percent less than what is should be."

Heart Health & Your Vision: Why They’re Connected

February is American Heart Month and it’s a great time for a reminder that keeping your heart healthy helps protect more than just your ticker… it can help protect your eyes too!

The tiny blood vessels in the back of your eye (in your retina) are very similar to the blood vessels that feed your heart. When your heart and circulation are under stress, which is common with conditions like with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, or if you smoke, those same stresses can damage the delicate vessels in your eyes. That damage can lead to serious eye conditions.

Research also shows that people with higher cardiovascular risk may have a higher likelihood of developing major eye diseases including AMD, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and retinal vein or artery occlusions, sometimes years before vision symptoms appear.

What this means for you:
* Healthy heart habits like controlling blood pressure and cholesterol, staying active, eating well, quitting smoking, and managing diabetes aren’t just good for your heart… they may also help protect your sight.
* Regular, comprehensive eye exams can catch signs of vascular stress before you notice vision changes, giving you a better chance of treatment and prevention.

Call us at 580-255-1172 to schedule your eye exam and work towards keeping both your heart and your eyes healthy this year!

Healthy Vision Habit: Wear Sunglasses in the Snow

Spring break ski trip prep is in full swing for many people and February is one of the most likely months for snowfall in our region. Either way, here is some info you may not know: Snow isn’t just bright, it actually reflects up to 80% of the sun’s UV rays, which can seriously strain and damage your eyes. That means your eyes can be exposed to even more UV light in the winter than in the summer!

Whether you’re outside shoveling snow, driving, walking, or heading out on a ski trip, wearing sunglasses with 100% UV protection helps:
• Reduce glare
• Prevent eye strain and headaches
• Protect against long-term eye damage

Winter sun counts too!

Protect your eyes year-round with proper sunglasses.
If you need help finding the right pair, Edwards Family Vision would love to help.

What Is Macular Degeneration?

Macular degeneration (also called AMD) is an eye condition that mainly affects people as they get older and can blur the center part of your vision, which is the part you use to read, see faces, or drive. It doesn’t usually affect your side vision, but it can make everyday tasks harder if left unchecked.

There are two types:
*Dry AMD, which is the most common kind, happens slowly over time as the middle of your retina wears down, causing blurry spots or dim areas in your straight-ahead vision.
*Wet AMD is less common but can come on faster, caused by tiny, leaky blood vessels under your retina that can make central vision worse quickly. Early treatment can help slow it down.

Even though there’s no cure yet, catching AMD early matters. Regular eye exams can find signs before you notice big changes and give you options to help protect your sight.

Call us at 580-255-1172 to schedule an eye exam, especially if you’ve had trouble reading, noticing straight lines look wavy, or recognizing faces. Let’s stay on top of your vision together!

February is here and it’s a great month to focus on your vision and overall health!

February is Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) & Low Vision Awareness Month, a time to learn about conditions that can affect central vision and make everyday tasks harder as we age and how regular eye exams can help with early detection and management.

February is also American Heart Month, a nationwide observance emphasizing heart health and since cardiovascular health impacts your eyes too, it’s a perfect reminder to take care of your whole self this month.

And don’t forget: Rare Disease Day is on February 28th, an international day dedicated to raising awareness about rare conditions and supporting those affected.

Stay tuned all month for helpful tips and info about keeping your eyes and body healthy in 2026!

Pardon our mess, but exciting things are happening at Edwards Family Vision! Things might be a little dustier than usual, but it's for a good reason.

This weekend, Dr. Edwards rolled up his sleeves and got to work on the first phase of demolition that will pave the way for an expanded optical and much-needed updates to improve office flow and productivity. His hands-on approach reflects the same care and dedication he brings to every patient interaction.

This project isn’t just about remodeling, it’s about creating a better experience for our patients, offering a wider selection of frames, and ensuring our space continues to support the high-quality care you deserve.

We’re so grateful for his commitment, vision, and determination to continually invest in our practice and our community. We can’t wait to share what’s coming next!

Don’t worry, we’re still seeing patients! Call today to schedule: 580-255-1172
