Risk of getting prostate cancer:

"About 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime. But each man’s risk of prostate cancer can vary, based on his age, race/ethnicity, and other factors.

For example, prostate cancer is more likely to develop in older men. About 6 in 10 prostate cancers are diagnosed in men who are 65 or older, and it is rare in men under 40. The average age of men when they are first diagnosed is about 67.

Prostate cancer risk is also higher in African American men and in Caribbean men of African ancestry than in men of other races."

Duncan Regional Hospital is proud to be the first hospital in Oklahoma to offer needle-free blood draws using the PIVO™ Pro Needle-free Blood Collection Device from BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company). This groundbreaking innovation reflects our deep commitment to patient-centered care and delivers on the promise of a “One-Stick Patient Experience.”

By drawing blood through an existing IV line, PIVO™ Pro offers a safer, more comfortable alternative to traditional venipuncture. The benefits are clear:

Fewer needle sticks – Blood is collected through the IV already in place
Less pain and anxiety – Patients avoid repeated needle insertions
Improved staff safety – Reduces risk of accidental needle sticks and blood exposure
Streamlined workflow – Minimizes complications from IV failures and poor sample quality

Blood draws are among the most common procedures in hospitals, impacting nearly every patient daily. By reimagining this routine task, DRH Health is improving the experience for both patients and caregivers.

A recent survey revealed that 51% of Americans fear needles, with 31% citing multiple needle sticks as a top concern. Innovations like PIVO™ Pro are helping to ease those fears and elevate the standard of care.
