Day #347 – Five senses

Each of the five senses associated with the human body are touched by grief in different ways. While we can no longer directly hear, see, touch, smell or taste our loved one who has passed, we can connect with them via our senses.

Hearing the voices of those who have passed through video recordings provides music to your ears of a special voice that will always remind you of your loved one.

Seeing pictures of your loved one will provide a constant reminder of the beauty they posses.

Touching your loved ones belonging will offer you warmth through objects that are associated to who they were.

Smelling their clothing or cologne/perfume provides a feeling of nostalgia and closeness. A special feeling that triggers great emotion.

Tasting their favorite foods will remind you of days of cooking, eating and spending time together.

Day #344 – Rain

There is something about rain that is soothing. The combination of moisture in the air, the smells of the rainwater as they touch the ground and the tapping of the raindrops on the windows that provide a warm feeling.

Just like grief there are many dimensions of a rainstorm that can come and go in one weather pattern. Each period of wet weather can be labeled as a drizzle, downpour, shower or even a hurricane. With each storm the sun returns and the ground dries making for a new day.

Day #342 – Write your story

Everyone has a story to tell and yours is as compelling as the others. Your experiences, your emotions and your outcomes are worthy of documenting, whether verbally or on paper; and it should be shared.

Start by writing notes, then organize the notes and write away. Be sure to capture life changing events, how you felt about them and the outcomes. Include thoughts of growth and disappointment -- what went right and what went wrong.

When you are ready, share the story with friends, family and even new acquaintances. You will be pleasantly surprised by the reaction of others as they will listen attentively with both ears.

Day #340 – Changes you forever

Grief can transform a human forever. The experience of losing someone you love, the permanency of the loss and the emotional reaction leaves an everlasting impression on relationships, activities and the future.

For most, the changes are positive. People who have experienced a loss have a tendency to love a little deeper as they move forward, have a bit more patience for those who are suffering and appreciate what they have as tomorrow it may be gone.
