🎨 I'm now accepting Step Up for Students scholarships for art therapy sessions with teens (ages 12+)!

While I’m new to this scholarship program, I have years of experience supporting teens through the ups and downs of adolescence- whether it’s anxiety, low self-esteem, social struggles, or big life changes.

🖌️ Art can be a powerful outlet for your teen to express emotions and process challenges in a creative, non-verbal way.
✨ No art experience needed, just a willingness to explore. All materials are included!
⏱️ Sessions are 50 minutes long and take place in person at my Dunedin office.

đź’¬ A consult is required before the first session to ensure a good fit.
đź’ł Sessions are $150 each and can be purchased through MyScholarShop using Step Up scholarship funds.

🪑 Limited spots available, schedule your consult at www.modernmindscounseling.com or e-mail molly@modernmindscounseling.com.

Not all anxiety feels the same.
In postpartum life, it can come from two very different parts of your brain.

🧠 The amygdala reacts with body panic: fast, emotional, physical.
You feel like something’s wrong, even if you can’t explain why.

🌀 The prefrontal cortex is your thinking center.
It spirals with “what ifs,” mental checklists, and fears about the future.

Both are common after becoming a mom. Both are exhausting.
Neither means you’re doing anything wrong.

In this post, we break down how to tell the difference and why knowing can help you respond with care, not shame.

💛 You’re not failing. Your brain is adjusting to motherhood.

If this resonates and you’re ready for support, I offer individual sessions (including art therapy + Accelerated Resolution Therapy) in Dunedin, FL and virtually across Florida and Massachusetts.
✨ You can book a session or free consultation at the link in my bio.

I often share this with my clients when they feel frustrated by what seems like a step backward. Healing and growth aren’t linear—there will be ups and downs, but that doesn’t mean you’re not making progress. Every twist and turn is part of the journey. Keep going, you’re still moving forward. 💜✨

🌿 Free Virtual Art Journaling Workshop for New Moms 🌿

Join me next Friday at 9:30 AM for the first free virtual art journaling workshop hosted by Modern Minds Counseling and Art Therapy, LLC! This is a space for new moms to connect, reflect, and create—no art experience needed.

For our first session, we’ll be exploring the many roles we balance as moms.

📌 Recommended for moms with babies (birth to 1 year), but if you feel this would benefit you and have older kids, you are absolutely welcome!

✨ This is a great tool to start for yourself—to process your journey, learn a screen-free coping skill, and connect with other moms who are in it with you.

What you’ll need:
đź–Š Paper, any notebook, or an art journal (Recommended sketchbook: Canson Mixed Media Sketchbook)
đź–¤ A black marker (Sharpie if available)
🎨 Colored markers, crayons, or colored pencils

📍 Registration is required! Sign up here: bit.ly/artjournalingfornewmoms

✨ Let’s talk about postpartum sleep (or lack thereof)… ✨

At my first postpartum visit, the pediatrician asked, “Are you getting any sleep?” and I wanted to splash my coffee in their face. Because unless they had a magical plan to make that happen, wasn’t my zombie-like state answer enough? 🤦‍♀️

Sleep isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity for mental health. Sleep deprivation is directly linked to postpartum anxiety & depression, and for those with bipolar disorder, it can trigger postpartum psychosis.

Here are some realistic ways to get a solid 4-hour stretch (which research shows is crucial for recovery):

🛏 Sleep Shifts – If you have a partner, try a shift schedule (ex: one sleeps 8PM-12AM, the other 12AM-4AM). Some nights, the baby might cooperate and sleep. Other nights, it’s Netflix & Taco Bell at 2AM just to survive. Either way, someone gets real sleep.

🍼 Breastfeeding & Sleep – A lactation consultant can help you figure out if pumping or feeding before/after your sleep stretch is an option. (Spoiler: one 4-hour stretch likely won’t ruin your supply—it might actually help it!) Also, some of the world’s most successful people drank formula. Fed is best!

🌙 Postpartum Doulas – If shifts aren’t possible, consider hiring overnight help. Even one or two nights can be life-changing.

👶 Letting Go of Control – Your partner may care for the baby differently than you—this is OK and actually good for the baby. If stepping away feels too overwhelming to manage, you might be dealing with postpartum anxiety. You’re not alone, and talking to a mental health professional can help.

💤 Worst Case—Call in Backup – Can a trusted friend or family member come over so you can nap? Even 1-2 hours can make a difference.

Sleep deprivation isn’t just part of the deal—it’s something that deserves a solution. You deserve rest. ❤️

In Accelerated Resolution therapy, we help you “keep the knowledge, lose the pain.” What does this mean? Using a process called voluntary image replacement, we’re able to go into your brain and replace any negative images associated with a traumatic event with positive ones. This way, when you think about what happened, you’ll see the positive images you’ve placed there instead of the traumatic ones. This allows for your body to have reduced physiological reactions so that you’re able to control and even eliminate future triggers.

It can be so hard postpartum to get a moment for ourselves. If you do get that rare moment, therapy may not be top of your long list of things that need to get done. I am here to meet you where you are at and help you work on YOU (and prioritizing your mental health can make it easier and more enjoyable to tackle that long list!). Here’s some accommodations provided to help get you the help you deserve.

- Babies are ALWAYS welcome in sessions. In fact, there is a changing table, nursing room, and a variety of baby toys/items at the office.
- You are always encouraged to tend to your baby’s needs during sessions. Feedings, naps, and dirty diapers don’t have to wait.
- I am happy to hold/ bounce/ pat/ sway your baby during sessions IF that feels helpful. This is always up to you, your comfort, and what feels most productive for you.
- Telehealth sessions are available and you can always switch to this at the last second if making out of the house isn’t happening.
- Walk and talk sessions coming in November! It’s simply too hot out right now. But come November, we can walk, talk, and push your baby in a stroller.

What other obstacles are keeping you from mental health therapy? What ideas do you have to help more moms access support postpartum?

Excited to be accepting both adult AND pediatric clients! Contact me to schedule a consult to see if I’m the right fit.
