Our Story
I am the mother of three amazing little people and one angel baby (we lost her during the second trimester of my 3rd pregnancy). I am married to an amazingly supportive and hard working husband/father. We live in Dunkirk, NY. Supporting women thru pregnancy, labor/childbirth, breastfeeding, motherhood, etc. is my calling and I am so passionate about this work.
My first birth experience was in the hospital. It was so intense, and not exactly the experience I was planning for, but it was still the most amazing and exciting experience of my life. I was so proud of myself when my first baby was born, and so excited to do it all over again! The day after my daughter’s first birthday, we found out we were pregnant with our son! This time I wanted a birth experience that was less medical so I found a local midwife and started planning a home water birth. Throughout my second pregnancy I learned so much about the actual birth process. This is when I started to realize that I was very excited by everything in the birth world! After my son was born, I had the experience of helping another mama prepare for her "home-birth" and she asked me to attend her labor as her "doula". I was so honored for this invitation but also felt ill equipped. That is when I decided to attend a DONA international birth doula training. I completed the training in Nov 2016 and am very close to obtaining my "official" DONA certification. I gave birth to my third baby (our angel) at 20 weeks in the hospital. My husband and I were supported by a wonderful bereavement nurse and my eyes (and heart) were opened to the world of pregnancy loss and grief. My fourth child was born at home in Nov 2018. I was supported by my husband, mom, and midwives and gave birth to my largest baby who weighed 10lbs 2oz!
I am currently enrolled in JCC’s nursing program (the first step in becoming a certified nurse midwife). Please note that as a doula, I am a strictly a “non-medical” support person. It is outside of my scope to use my clinical training/expertise while practicing as a doula.
I completed a CLC (Certified Lactation Counselor) training in the summer of 2018, and am a huge breastfeeding advocate. I am also an advocate of women making their own choices and following their intuition about what is best for their family, so I promise I won’t counsel you about breastfeeding unless you are asking for my help!
