🌼 Choosing the right eye drops for allergy eyes matters.

If spring allergies are making your eyes itchy, watery, and red, over-the-counter drops can sometimes help—but not all eye drops are created equal.

🚫 Avoid drops that advertise “Get the Red Out.”

Many of these contain a medication called phenylephrine or other redness reducers. While they may make your eyes look whiter for a short time, they can actually cause rebound redness when the drops wear off.

With frequent use, your eyes can start to depend on the drops, making the redness worse over time.

✅ A better option for allergy eyes:
Look for antihistamine eye drops, such as drops containing olopatadine or other allergy-relief medications. These target the underlying allergy response rather than simply masking redness.

However, during heavy allergy seasons—like the spring pollen we experience here—over-the-counter drops sometimes aren’t strong enough to fully control symptoms.

👁️ When that happens, prescription allergy eye drops can provide much stronger and longer-lasting relief.

Here in our area, trees like Bradford pears start releasing pollen early in the spring, and for many people that means eye irritation almost overnight.

Common allergy eye symptoms include:
• Itching
• Redness
• Excess tearing
• Burning or irritation
• Puffy eyelids

While pollen is a big trigger this time of year, other allergens like dust, mold, and pet dander can also make symptoms worse.

👁️ Ways to help manage eye allergies:

• Avoid rubbing your eyes
• Use artificial tears to rinse allergens away
• Apply a cool compress to reduce itching
• Wash your hands and face after being outdoors
• Keep windows closed on high-pollen days

If symptoms continue, prescription allergy eye drops can provide much stronger relief than most over-the-counter options.
