The Lord is my Shepherd
Psalm 23 is arguably the most popular psalm in the Book of Psalms. It begins, “The Lord is my Shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.”
The image of God as shepherd can be found in several places throughout the Bible. Noteably, the prophet Ezekiel expresses God’s care for his people in terms of a shepherd taking care of his sheep. Ezekiel 34 recounts God saying He will gather and heal and strengthen and teach and lead His people. And in the Gospel of John, Chapter 10, Jesus refers to Himself as the Good Shepherd similarly providing for His followers.
Psalm 23, Ezekiel 34, and John 10 are three Bible passages to read to inspire confidence that God will always be there for us, no matter how bad things seem to be in the world.
We do well to continue quoting Psalm 23, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff comfort me.”
