Sometimes silence isn’t avoidance....it’s protection. I get it. When someone “can’t talk about it,” their brain may be overwhelmed, and the words simply aren’t accessible in that moment. Stress can shut down the part of the brain that helps us communicate, while what they’re carrying is stored deeper...in feelings, sensations, and experiences that don’t always translate into language. 👉Pushing someone to talk before they’re ready can increase distress, not relieve it.👈 What helps most is patience, presence, and creating a space where they feel safe enough to open up in their own time. Healing doesn’t begin with pressure...it begins with safety.

Nonviolent Communication offers a simple framework for slowing things down and reconnecting with clarity and care.

Observations help us stay with what’s actually happening.
Feelings point us toward what’s alive in us.
Needs remind us of our shared humanity.
Requests invite choice rather than compliance.

These steps don’t have to be linear. You can begin wherever awareness is most accessible in the moment.

This model is influenced by the work of Marshall B. Rosenberg, the founder of Nonviolent Communication, and adapted here through a neurodivergent, relational, and therapeutic lens.
