Taking therapy beyond the clinic! Our Physical, Occupational, and Recreational Therapy teams led a community reintegration outing where patients practiced real-world skills like mobility, endurance, and problem-solving—while also sharing plenty of laughs along the way. Experiences like these build confidence, encourage independence, and help prepare patients for a safe and successful return to daily life.

“When I was really scared, he was exactly what I needed.” 💙

At just 25 years old, Annie Barbour faced a diagnosis no one expects — lymphoma. What started as a small lump in her neck led to surgery, months of chemotherapy, and time away from the preschool classroom she loves. Through it all, having compassionate surgical care close to home made a difference. Today, Annie is cancer-free and back doing what she loves most: teaching little ones and watching them grow.

🌟 Employee Spotlight 🌟
Meet Gail Bautista, Sepsis Disease Specific Coordinator

✨ How long have you worked at Cape Fear Valley?
8 months (I started in May)

✨ Favorite part of my job: the opportunity to make a change as a part of the Cape Fear Valley "family" and help the people we serve. What keeps you at Cape Fear Valley: The people I work with are motivational leaders - they are the support system I have to help make changes possible at Cape Fear Valley. They lead by example and also show gratefulness and appreciation to all the members of the team. The whole team is what keeps me motivated to come to work every day. 😊

✨ What inspired you to pursue a career in healthcare?
My parents inspired me - seeing their work ethic and their constant drive to help those in need, as well as being experts at what they do. They have a burning passion to keep learning every day and have always been exceptional role models to the people they worked with. I chose healthcare because I want to take care of my family with the same compassion they have. As a nurse, you always learn something new not only with your mind but with your heart. 😊

✨ What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Spending time with the people I love, and most especially, serving God. I always attend worship services to strengthen my faith and follow how God expects me to live. I spend my time practicing hymns to sing at our worship services, and practice being prayerful.

✨ Do you have any creative outlets or interests?
I am very fond of music and art. With this enthusiasm, I believe this is a way to help create different ideas on how to engage viewers. I find that appreciating art and music is beneficial for your mind and also helps with innovation at work.

Coughing and sneezing can easily spread germs through the air and onto surfaces. Protect others by covering your mouth and nose with a tissue or your elbow—not your hands. Dispose of used tissues right away and wash your hands afterward to reduce the spread of illness.
