Exercise and arthritis can (and do) go together.

Exercise and arthritis aren't mutually exclusive. In fact, an exercise program can actually help to ease troublesome arthritis pain. But you should choose activities that are easy on the joints. Try a weekly workout mix made up of some of these activities.

In honor of National Volunteer Week, we are proud to recognize the compassionate volunteers behind the Cape Fear Valley Medical Center NICU Cuddler Program at Cape Fear Valley Health. For the tiniest patients in the NICU, human touch plays a vital role in healing, growth, and development. When parents need to step away, NICU cuddlers step in—providing comfort through rocking, soothing, singing, and simply being present. Their gentle care helps support the healing process for fragile infants and brings peace to both babies and the care teams around them.

Under the leadership of Cuddler Coordinator Marcia Garrett, this incredible volunteer program helps ensure that babies receive the comforting touch they need during some of their most critical moments. Trained in the “Eat, Sleep, Console” model, these volunteers provide meaningful support not only to newborns but also to the NICU nurses who care for them each day. With servant hearts and unwavering dedication, they make a lasting difference in the lives of families when it matters most.

If you’ve been told your arteries are too calcified for a balloon or stent to work, there’s a breakthrough therapy now available at Cape Fear Valley Heart & Vascular Center that may be right for you.

The SEISMIQ Intravascular Lithotripsy (IVL) System uses sound waves – delivered via a low-pressure balloon – to safely fracture hardened calcium inside your arteries. It’s precise, gentle and effective, even for the most difficult to treat lesions.

Ask your doctor if the SEISMIQ IVL system may be right for you.
