Heading home 🏡for the holidays can stir things up long before you even walk through the door.

Sometimes the body remembers what the mind has tried to move past.
You might notice:
✨a tight chest before the trip
✨stomach knots when you think about certain people
✨feeling like a younger version of yourself
✨irritability out of nowhere
✨trouble sleeping
✨going numb just to get through
✨over-explaining, over-preparing, or shutting down

That’s not you “being dramatic.”
That’s your nervous system recognizing old wounds… and preparing to protect you.

And if—once you’re there—you notice yourself slipping into familiar patterns?
Talking less. Shrinking a bit. People-pleasing. Withdrawing. Over-functioning.
It’s okay. Truly.

Those patterns were created for survival.
And sometimes being back in familiar rooms activates familiar responses.
What matters most is not perfection.
It’s awareness, compassion, and the ability to return to yourself when you’re ready.

💜Honor your body for remembering.
💜Honor your healing for continuing.
💜Honor yourself for showing up in the ways you can.
💜You’re not failing.
💜You’re human.
💜And you deserve gentleness every step of the way.

💔Grief lives beyond language — it’s written in the body before the mind can find words for it. When we grieve, our nervous system registers the absence like a phantom limb. The body remembers who isn’t there. It reaches, it aches, it craves what can no longer be held.

🧬Neuroscience shows us that grief activates the same brain regions as physical pain and intense longing. Our breath grows shallow. Time fractures and distorts. The senses may dull or sharpen unpredictably. This is the body in mourning — trying to make sense of a loss that defies explanation, searching for what it knows is gone.

We can continue to play a role in our own suffering….release what doesn’t serve you so what’s meant for you can find you💜

One of the great lessons of my life: the source of your pain does not need to be involved in your healing of it. I’m a big believer that in our healing process, we need to be witnessed.

That’s why going where you can be seen, heard, and witnessed is an important thing to prioritize and honour for yourself. This can be hard when we want so desperately for the other person to just acknowledge, own, and apologize. It’s easy to keep going back for more and to get stuck in the loop of negotiating with the self about ways you might be able to make that happen. But at some point, there comes a moment where you have to accept that it is not there where your healing will happen. You release it needs to come from there. You stop trying to control that. You grieve. But in that, you make space to be seen, heard, and understood by someone who can, someone who will, and someone honoured to do so.
