Thrilled to reconnect with Dr. Sedgley! It’s hard to believe it’s been 15 years since my fellowship interview in sports medicine, where Matt was incredibly warm and welcoming faculty. Over the past decade, we’ve shared many memorable moments as colleagues in the field. This upcoming online talk I'm moderating with him is a wonderful reminder of our journey together. Let’s keep spreading positivity and supporting one another. Looking forward to an engaging discussion and lecture!

Just had an intriguing case of calcific tendinopathy in the shoulder! What made this case unique was the calcification localized only at the subscapular tendon—one of the rarest forms, seen in less than 5% of cases. After months of conservative treatment and battling insurance for percutaneous ultrasound-guided options, I performed the bedside barbotage procedure in-office. The patient experienced immediate relief, and the procedure was a success! Excited to help more patients with similar conditions!

I visited a local gym with colleagues, and this visit sparked some insightful discussions about the importance of understanding our health metrics. This initiative is designed to empower individuals to take charge of their well-being by focusing on key health indicators and fostering a community centered on proactive health management.
During our conversations, we explored the potential of wearable technology to provide real-time feedback and insights, making it easier for everyone to track their progress. Together, we’re building a supportive environment that encourages healthy habits and celebrates the small victories along the way.
Stay tuned for updates on our program and how you can get involved!

With the high school football season kicking off, we embrace the wins and losses that come with it. But above all, the safety of our athletes remains our top priority. I had the privilege of discussing sideline coverage with our residents, and I'm grateful for the chance to support our athletes in reaching their fullest potential. Let’s gear up for another exciting Friday night football season! 🙌🎉

Shoulder tendinitis, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, jumper’s knee, Achilles tendinitis, and plantar fasciitis all have one thing in common: they’re injuries involving the tendons and fascia. A recent workshop at the Emory Musculoskeletal Center, supported by Trice Medical, focused on this very topic—how best to treat tendinopathy. The session provided a valuable opportunity for residents and fellows from various specialties to engage in discussion, ask questions, and practice the latest, cutting-edge techniques in tendinopathy treatment.

Had an amazing time at the Atlanta Hawks Men’s Health Symposium at State Farm Arena yesterday! The 100 Blackmen of Atlanta were well represented. Huge thanks to the organizers for shedding light on various aspects of men’s health, including nutrition, fitness, routine check-ups, mental health, and essential screenings. It was exhilarating to connect and share insights with patients, colleagues and friends.

I’m excited to share the positive outcome of my patient after receiving a microfragmented adipose tissue injection for her gluteus medius/minimus tendon high grade injury, which was often misdiagnosed as hip bursitis. It’s incredibly rewarding to witness improvements in her pain and overall quality of life, particularly after a long period of conservative treatment without any progress.

This success, along with others, has led to a collaboration with Dr. Michael Serra Jovenich on a review article about microfragmented adipose treatment in tendon injuries, contributing insights to the field. Sharing our experiences is essential for helping others navigate similar treatment challenges.

Fortunate to have been a part of the FIFA World Cup event in Atlanta yesterday, featuring soccer legends like Messi, Dembele, Hakimi, and Suarez! Even though Inter Miami FC faced a tough loss to PSG, arguably the best club in the world, it was an exhilarating experience to witness top-tier soccer in our city. The growth of soccer in Atlanta, the U.S., and worldwide is truly exciting. A special shoutout to the incredible medical staff who made it all possible!

I’m excited to remind us all that Atlanta will host six FIFA Club World Cup games next year! As a sports medicine physician covering this tournament, I feel privileged and blessed to be part of such an incredible event. In a world that’s atimes filled with so much unrest, soccer is one thing that unites us all. The anticipation for the 2026 World Cup in the US, Mexico, and Canada is growing, and Atlanta is ready to embrace the excitement! 🌍⚽️

The parallel between life and sports
Sustaining an injury while playing professional sports can be incredibly challenging to navigate. This update highlights two injuries sustained during the past season. I’m pleased to see the progress and improvements that our athletes have made since then. I look forward to their complete recovery and return to volleyball next season.

The 2025 Emory Sports Medicine Symposium concluded this past Saturday. This event offered expert physicians the chance to present on various topics and provide updates on their research projects. Several residents from across the country attended this one-day symposium, and it was a pleasure to see Margot Putukian, the Chief Medical Officer of MLS, as the keynote speaker in attendance. We look forward to seeing you next year!
