Thank you for interviewing me and others on the incredibly important topic of athletic burnout!! It's fantastic and I feel so needed to hear. We get into our own headspace (and body space) and we forget perspective. I so appreciate the vulnerability that these other elite athletes and experts share! Check it out. I've included the link in my bio!

Do you struggle with Perfectionsim? So many athletes struggle here. Perfectionsim is not your friend and it is not "doing your best". Read my latest blog post to learn about the difference between Perfectionsim and having a strong Work Ethic. They are not the same. Perfectionsim is the joy sucker of life! https://marisaasplund.com/my-big-kahunas-taking-on-perfectionism/

Mental health is health. Let's treat it. Mental health treatment can vary from non-clinical practices to talk therapy to medication and so much more—and no treatment should have any stigma.

Another quick tip on how to grow your capacity to know and Listen to Yourself. I call it "Take 10". It's one of the most simple and restorative things you can do. Even with a hectic life and family, 10 minutes is all it takes. I prefer to do this in the evening as I transition from work to family time-I just take my yoga mat, a pillow, some headphone and a lay on the floor listening to calm music for 10 minutes. Sometimes I'll put on a guided body scan or other, but I DO NOT consider this to be meditation or anything that is a "practice". I find that even the benefits of guided meditation can keep me on the "effort train". So try it-take 10.

We tend to throw around the slogan or phrase "Listen to Yourself"...or at least in the mental health and endurance sports arenas we do. But what is so neglected is a road map for HOW to do that. Most of us are constantly bombarded with outside stimuli, noise, information, all which can be so captivating...but it does just that. It captivates us and often leads to chronic disconnection to ourselves. Here are a couple simple tips to facilitate grown that ability to "listen to ourselves". If the thought of being with out external electronic chatter for one day feels overwhelming, even more reason to give it a try.

"Our worth and our belonging are not negotiations with other people"
I have to admit...I'm a bit of a Brene ju**ie. Maybe it's that slight Texas twang as she so perfectly can organize and articulate much of my own tattered narrative. But as I continue to explore this theme: Listening to Myself, no one is better than Brene. Enjoy this little 10 minute video-it's power packed.
